I pick up the local accent pretty much anywhere I live and it causes no end of amusement to my friends back home in Scotland.
Even do it on the phone. When I talk to my gran I start having a sort of hybrid Geordie/Cumbrian thing going on. Disappears as soon as I put the phone down.
Same thing happens when I go back home. After the first five minutes the Glaswegian accent kicks back in and all is well again.
I even managed to pass myself of as Dutch when I lived there for a few months, at least until I ran out of Dutch and had to admit I was from Scotland. The person I was talking to was quite surprised.

I managed to get my friend to use the phrase 'Sweet baby jebus' and it was killing him as he could work out where on Earth it had come from until I used it last time I saw him. Could be a bit of a problem as he teaches in a Catholic school.

i think half the school was saying it after a couple of months, its amazing how these things get round

I do a lot of mimicry, completely by accident, particularly accents or speech impediments, I suppose it's the ultimate in "mirroring" behaviour. I have also picked up the phrase "No Worries" for everything, from my Mister who used to live in Ozland. I've been working in Nottingham long enough now that just about every female is "Chick" which I'm not particularly fond of.

Otherwise, I pick up things I like and use them as I see fit, sometimes less deliberately than others.

I get texts like that from a friend, its just a friendship thing, or a "signature" nothing to be bothered about

I copy accents of people I spend too much time with. Right now I speak a mix of french-northern english- american accent that can turn into anything from cockney to glaswegian without warning
