serving up exploding Iphones seems to be seen as Apple pushing things in the EU. There have been a couple of dozen complaints, which Jobs' Mob claims is tiny in comparison with the numbers of Iphones it sold. After all what are a few people catching fire and a couple of dozen gadgets exploding when you sell a million of the things?

However the European Union's consumer czar warned that Iphones would be taken off the market if national authorities find manufacturing faults lie behind the rash of mysterious explosions. Apparently France is very keen to do this.

Meglena Kuneva pointed out that she did not need Steve Jobs' permission to stop the Iphones from entering the EU. "If goods are dangerous, then we will order a recall," she said

Calling it an Iphone instead of iPhone just makes the editors of that site look like a shower of cretins, in my considered opinion.

Issuing a forced product recall is something of a rare thing in the UK since it's very much "last resort", usually manufacturers are "encouraged" to issue a recall themselves.

An EU-wide recall would be very, very interesting. Not to mention expensive for Apple (unless the devices are OK, in which case the taxpayer is paying).

If there is a recall then Apple' European fanboys will have to hand their perfect little devices back until Jobs Mob can make them so perfect that they don't explode or crack.
Have to? I doubt that the EU can force you to give them back even when they can force the manufacturer to recall them. Just ignore the recall.

I know nothing of these Iphones of which they speak. Is this a new product from Apple or something?

A recall would be interesting - would I get a full refund? What about a refund for those apps I have bought?

One suspects you would get an exchange, not a refund i.e. for an iPhone which had been certified 'safe'. In which case you could simply resync all your apps to it.
