It is a good card, but the 192 core GTX 260 was around equal to the 4870 in most games, the reissued 200+ core version was slightly ahead of the 4870. There would be no benefit for a 4870 owner to buy a 260 unless all they ever played was Crysis or Crysis Warhead where even the 192 core performed better.

I have very little interest in the new model. I'm still DX9 here and I've yet to see anything that mind-blowing in DX10. For me, it will likely mean cheaper run-out DX10 cards for me to snap up. Happy days. Early adoption ftl.

There are rumours that the 5770 is going to be a pretty tasty budget card although I'm not sure of the exact specs. The 5 series look to be good on the power efficiency front. Hopefully DX11 will have a happier time than DX10.

Yeah but will DX11 be an imidiate response (i.e. We will see a definative improvemanet from DX10 or will DX11 be the same as what DX10 was to to DX9 users... *just a bit more pretty in lighting and textures slightly more nicer*). I for 1 can only wait to see what Dirt 2 looks like on a DX11 Card Will it forfill our expecatitons??

I think, or at least hope, there will be more of a response from game producers for dx11 than dx10. AFAIK it takes a completely new approach over that of dx10. A couple of games are due this year and more for Q1 2010, but yes, after the anything but enthusiastic success of dx10 it's probably wise to hang back and wait for premium prices to come down. Here's a hint at what the next STALKER will look like (from pcgameshardware.com). Tessellation amundo

I honestly don't think so but I'll be happy to be proved wrong. When DX10 came out, there were quite a few games on the horizon waiting to take advantage of the tacked-on features - Crysis, Bioshock, Call of Juarez etc etc. DX11 so far has Dirt 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, which apparently are going to see partial support. Not forgetting that according to the last Steam survey Clicky, ATI have 26% of the GPU market and they have the only DX11 card out a fortnight before Vista SP3 arrives. Who's going to invest a lot of money in something that may be utilised by a very small part of the PC gaming community. The lead platforms are the consoles at the end of the day. I don't think it is going to gain much support for a while yet. Considering the biggest selling game of the last couple of years - COD4 - was DX9... The next Stalker game is already out in Russia. It's one of the few franchises that hasn't been sullied by the consoles...but after that is released, what next??

I'm in the same boat TBH gav, I've just got my "here's hoping" head on. DX10 was a fiasco on the whole, not that many games successfully implemented it and Assassins Creed even had to produce a patch to remove it! I just have my fingers crossed that with the new approach to DX11, and the imminent W7 release, games producers will be more inclined to work with it.

Just 1 thing to do... Sit Christmass out and wait untill January... Hopefully prices will crash on DX11 Cards because by then im guessing Nvidia will also be develpoing Budgetable DX11 Cards. Then get Dirt 2 fired up and see how she fares... tbh i think if ur gonna by a HD5870 before xmass u got more money than sense

If Sterling continues its downward trend we'll be seeing price increases, not decreases.

Hmm, I'm not pushing the Intel 4500HD chipset on my machine at the moment, an upgrade is a long way off

Since the CPU upgrade I'm seeing more of what my GTX 275 is capable of, but I'm still only getting around 30-35 FPS in GTA4...

Really? What detail settings do you have? I have everything set to high, and the slider thingies set to 50 (all of them) and it seems to get about 30 or so @ 1152x864. And thats on my 9600GT and Pentium D I did find that resolution makes not a lot of difference to fps though. :/

Everything is maxed out in fairness. Draw distance is on 40, everything else is up high, 1680x1050. I'm getting texture memory warnings at the settings I'm on, but it runs at 60fps indoors and then drops to around 30 outside.

Thats really odd.
I don't get much of a slowdown when I go outside. The only time I get noticeable slowdowns is if I load with the bootup flags, but everything maxxed out and then wait until night. I get about 15 fps there.
