Too right. I don't know why the French are getting so agitated about this. From the BBC: and What's more sinister? An extradition attempt or drugging and raping a 13 year old girl?

Source. I'm not sure what to think about this. He's clearly got to serve justice in some fashion, but after all this time and when there's apparently no enmity from the victim, and given the [LIFTED] he's been through his entire life over this already... I don't know what the punishment should be. I'll be watching with interest.

He pleaded guilty and then did a runner? Why shouldn't he be extradited? The real question is why has it taken this long?

Yes but the woman involved does not want him arrested. She consented and as far as she is concerned it is the past. I certainly do not condone what he has done but this is a farce. The US do not have a fair judicial system.

Hmm, I'm not sure she consented, in fact it's far from it according to the accounts given. She does, however, seem not to be to bothered if he's arrested or not.

From the Daily Mail I wouldn't have thought a 13 year old would legally be capable of consent in these circumstances.

This case has popped up periodically and on one of the previous occasions she said that she did not wish him to go to jail. It was all over with as far as she was concerned. This is simply a political move, by some District Attorney trying to make a name for himself.

He did a runner, because he believed the State wasn't going to stick to their side of the bargain - he had already served his time, and he believed they were going to renege on their side of the deal... I really don't know what to think, to be honest. The victim doesn't want him to serve time and nobody else has come forward to say that he also had under age sex with them, maybe it was an aberration and the shock of landing in jail learnt him his lesson... He should have been punished, and according to the deal, he did serve his punishment, if that is the case, what are the US doing? If the sentence was too lenient, they should have thought about it, before offering it...

He settled with her out of court for an undisclosed sum. That doesnt mitigate that he had unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor after plea barganing down from even more serious charges. In this case he should be sent back to do the time for his crime. Sex with a 13 year old girl using alcohol and drugs is unforgivable.

I have said that I do not condone what he has done. She has put this behind her and it keeps recurring. As far as she is concerned the constant bringing up of this is worse than what she went through initially. He has not offended since. He has also lost a lot of work because of this so it is not as if he got off scot free.

Polanski's defenders lose sight of the true victimhttp://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me ... umn?page=1Grand jury transcripts but a one sided article, still worth reading though... Somehow I don't expect he'll get the sentence he deserves, and I'd also argue for a retrial.

Why a retrial? Unless it is for all the criminal acts he did. Then fare enough. He should be allowd to gently rot away in prison knowing the general population inside would love to discuss the merits of child abuse He did the cime now he should do the time.

But that is the main point of the argument... He did do the agreed upon time, but fled when it looked like the state would renage on the agreed upon sentence... I'm not condoning what he did, but if I had done my time and got wind that I was about to be locked up a second time, I would probably do a runner as well...
