I think the figures are probably a bit overheated considering it all seems to be projections and so on, but I'd still say the amount of women sex offenders would shock...

Why is it so hard to believe that women can be sex offenders? They're human. :?

Because only us men are evil and nasty! Heaven forbid a man ever comfort a lost/upset child, best find the nearest woman to do it instead! To do otherwise makes you an instant paedophile - just ask any reader of the Scum or Daily Wail.

I think we subconsciously put a lot of stock in the thought of women being naturally maternal since they're the ones giving birth, which obviously isn't always the case...

Oh, I think it's very much the case that it's the woman giving birth ~100% of the time... Oh, you meant... ;)

Personally, I'm not surprised but the figure is questionably calculated. Probably like this:

Hmmm...200 people and one of them is a paedophile. Since the UK population is 60 million, that means 300,000 paedophiles.
Hmmm...20 paedophiles and one of them is female. That makes 64,000 female paedophiles.

It's common prejudice to believe all paedophiles are men, so most people will doubt women can be paedophiles.

I even went to the trouble of emphasising 'naturally'! ;)
