An interesting one this, but there is no doubt a cat and mouse game. Apple seem to be having similar issues with the FacePalm Pré. Any future OS release will likely break non Apple hardware installs.
Psystar either knows that it has really nothing to lose by carrying on - it’s small, and any financial penalty it has to pay will be above and beyond it’s own war chest’s capacity. The other scenario is that there are others in the background who are financing this - a big name who does not want to be directly implicated. You can bet that whatever the constitution of Psystar, Dell, HP and others are watching on with interest.

I suspect that as well. Though it could backfire on them. The problem is that Apple will state if you want to copy our business model fine, just do your own version of linux and market it yourselves.

It's better than that though. You can copy Apple's business model and copy an amount of their code which they have open sourced, reaping the benefits. The company just need to finish it off with a pretty user land and a few lower level bits...

There was a mistake in the inquirer article, it read: It should have read:

They are very desirable to many people, especially non-tech heads. The machines are very well designed and built. I have a 15.4" Toshiba Tecra (1.600€) and I had to set-up a MacBook Pro 13" (€1,400) and an HP ProBook 4710s 17" notebook (€669) this week. Of the lot, I'd prefer to have the MacBook Pro over the others, apart from the small screen resolution - the Toshiba has 1680x1050 on a 15" screen, it makes the 15" MBP and the 17" HP look a bit sad. From finish, the MBP was streets ahead of the HP, where the whole case flexes as you type. The glass encased screen is a lot more classy than the HP 17" screen. The glossy black of the HP looks great from a distance, but actually take it in your hands and it flexes and has rough, sharp edges, the MBP on the other hand feels solid and beautifully finished. Are the expensive? Compared to cheap notebooks like the HP, yes, compared to high-end business notebooks, they are averagely priced (cheaper than some, more expensive than others). They don't have the best graphics cards or fingerprint readers, but they are otherwise reasonably well specified. When Vista was released, my iMac had better drivers, from Apple, than any of the "Designed for Windows" or "Vista Ready" machines I used! If I don't have to think about the money, I'll buy Apple without hesitation, they are simply excellent, but if money is tight, I'll buy a cheap, flexible machine... The 17" HP? It is for one of the managers at work. The MBP 13"? I bought that for my girlfriends daughter...

Some on the Web are suggesting that the advent of Windows 7 more or less evens the playing-field in terms of OS quality. W7 has some features OSX doesn't and vice-versa. If you believe this (I use both OSX & W7, and I agree) then there is little to commend running OSX on non-Apple hardware...
As to the quality argument I certainly agree that Apple have produced some very good kit. The Aluminium MacBooks are certainly very well made, however [dons flame suit] they are more expensive than equally specified "plastic fantastics" from other makers...

I would say that Vista did that, it just has a bad reputation amongst die hard XP users...

I quite like Vista. It's just as annoying as Windows always has been, but it's quite pleasant to look at and works reasonably well.

I quite agree, I've used it since it came out and I too like it. Unfortunately, a bit like the Stock Market, sentiment is important and W7 doesn't carry the nasty baggage that (unjustly IMHO) Vista acquired. It is also a bit slicker and neater all round, and runs better on "legacy" hardware...
