There are not many things that cannot be cut without making a significant difference to the effectiveness of our forces. The new carriers are probably more useful than the nuclear subs.

They could pull the troops out of Afghanistan.

That would save almost enough to halve the national debt, I'm sure.

Not getting involved in other peoples affair overseas and becoming a properly defensive force would then make sue we can, oh I don't know, make provisions for the booming elderly population?
