hi guys bad news, my motherboard is no longer functioning, was overclocking (CPU was within previous stable limits, was experimenting with RAM), think i went a bit far because the POST screen was scrambled, reset the CMOS and it refused to reboot pulled out my old PC and exchanged power supplys, just to make sure, old PC boots fine with current supply, current PC doesnt move an inch with either. it lights up when plugged it, but pressing the power button or shorting the pins with a screwdriver does nothing so i was wondering what my plan of action should be: is there any way i can bring it back from the dead, or am i in for a new mobo? brand is Abit, who are no longer in business so getting a new BIOS chip is unlikely, unless one of you lovely people happen to have one lying around? i cant for the life of me think what else may have gone pop, and resetting the CMOS does nothing. thanks for any replies, this has really thrown me. first piece of hardware ive killed!! will update as and when, posting this off crappy living room PC which is an Athlon XP beige box wonder... i dont like it

Offt soddit, sounds like a case of overclcoking gone wrong Erm personally i would suspect that if theres no post its died, I once fixed a mobo that didnt post by using heat treatment on you re solder part of the mobo together, but it didn't last 1 day haha I would say its a certain death, i mean did it die when changing volts in the bios i mean the only thing i can think of is a major overvolt?? Just to be nosey was it anything good :O haha Regards Brad

If you want to get a BIOS chip, you could probably find one on eBay and it might be worth a try before you fork out for a new mobo. However, to me, this sounds like a new mobo job.

theres no post, nothing, not even the fans are twitching, which is why im thinking corrupted BIOS rather than hardware failure. if something was broken/ malfunctioning it should atleast run the fans. its as if the power supply isnt even getting the "on" signal the RAM was running at 2.1V (had it up to 2.3 just fine), everything else was well within same limits (CPU: 1.32v, NB: 1.25v, VTT: 1.23v), so i dont think voltage would have killed it i hadnt overvolted on that reboot anyhow, it was clock speed only. the overclock was about 975MHz RAM, with a ~406MHz FSB and 3.65GHz core. with the RAM at 1:1 ratio its happy up to 3.7, but was wondering if it was faster with higher RAM/lower core @dan thanks for the ebay advice, i will definitely give it a shot
