I didn't see this reported anywhere else. I also didn't watch the memorial service on the goggle box. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... en-commentMr Brierley deserves an OBE.

While Afghanistan was justified, Iraq was not. So in that respect I would regard Blair as a war criminal as well. I know that he wants to be the European President but that would be a huge mistake.

I like the fact he was bustled away by security. Is he to be protected from the views of other people?

Sure one day, but a foreigner or Blair? Then a foreigner wins every time.

I'm glad to see the man's standing up for his principles. But I'm not sure about Blair being whisked away. Perhaps he could've been allowed a chance to respond?

How could he have responded "God will judge me not you" blair is a wiley enough politican to know not to respond immedialty to such a comment. I only hope that he gets his come uppance soon and very very publically

There's no need for wileyness. How about just give the guy an opportunity to support the father in his grief. Tony Blair is one man, you can't pin an entire war on him. Retribution only continues the cycle of violence. Sensai says, "Finally, even as the victor, one is in danger, in that by defeating another, the desire of revenge is created in the vanquished." Don't be so keen to see people get their "comeuppance".

Blair is a consummate wordsmith. He is a trained lawyer, his wife is a barrister. They can talk and think themselves out of a situation. And they can easily convince themselves that they are right, even when they are clearly quite wrong. Blair told us that he felt that the war in Iraq was right and just. I believe that he fully believes that.
I am very, very wary of politicians - they are guarded with their comments, and will answer ambiguously in order that they can appear to say the right thing later on. An apology or words of sympathy to the gentleman in question could be seen as an admission of guilt, and would be picked apart by the media.
