Just looking at the photos thread, have any of you considered selling your photos online on one of those stock photo sites?

I know there's all sorts of considerations to be made (what sort of photos are deemed worthy, should I just upload this one to Flickr etc ;) ), but I figure if you're spending the time doing something you enjoy anyway, even getting paid small amounts for it would be a bonus :)

I really should start mainly cos the photos that ive taken I print them off in A4 and sell them for charity and all the pics get sold within the first few minutes like hot cakes  (not bragging btw I hated the pics I chose and it still baffles me why people would buy such....)

From the Moneysavingexpert site:

Quote:
Budding photographers can upload their digital photos to photo bank websites and earn royalties for each one sold. Ten per cent of the sale price will go to the website, and you'll probably need to advertise elsewhere to drum up demand. However, if you have an interest in niche photography subjects, or take particularly beautiful shots, you could make good money.

How much? You decide the retail price of your photos at Photobox, giving you the freedom to adjust the profit margin in line with different print sizes.

And here's their thread on it:

The thing about your pictures, Bratty, is that although you might not think much of them, I have seen quite a few comments about them in this very forum, and the general concesus seems to be that you can take a pretty mean photo'

That was a compliment, by the way. :D

I meant to pipe up earlier, but it's been a bit fraught around the Bat Cave for a few days.

There's a link in my sig to our little Focal Point gallery venture. We're always keen for new recruits, so if you think we'd like your piccies, drop us a line and we'll take a look-see.

I did this many, many months ago and have heard nothing back. I presume my photos don’t cut the mustard. It would have been nice to heave heard something either way, though. :?:

Did you not receive the email I sent last Thursday? :o

We definitely want you to join in. Perhaps I had the wrong email address?

So far, Flickr has done me proud in terms of usage of my pics. I don't want to charge anyone for what I've uploaded, but if someone came to me with an offer then I'd accept.

The only caveats I've asked for....via Creative Commons...is to have the photo attributed to me, and for any derivative works to carry the same caveat. I've had the Isle of Wight Police force and the CWU use my photos, with the correct link. I'm slightly annoyed that Cornwall Pride used one of my shots in a collage for their programme this year and didn't attribute or ask me

One their website is back up, I'm sending them a snott-o-gram :P

I have an iron in the fire with someone at work - Heather, I've sent you an email to the Studio just explaining my current situation. Nothing serious, or dramatic!

And with this bit of info, I rummage through my spam bin - and there they are. The spam filter has been reset. It seems to have been getting a little excitable of late.

I’ve replied to your invite with some questions - but in principle, I’d like to sign up. I’ll have a closer look through the agreement before committing any further. The idea of large format prints is certainly interesting.

Excellent. I'm in the Bat Cave tomorrow, so I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Alex, I'm intrigued now. For the first time in ages, I'm looking forward to going to work!

Very interesting Heather. And very nice pictures as well.
Did I spot a couple of previous photo competition entries in there?

D'oh! A bit of wishful thinking on my part, obviously!

Sorted and uploaded. We're all of a dither at the moment while we talk to various people about funding and whatnot. Things, hopefully, are going to shift up a gear or two quite quickly.
