On my frankly awesome Dell XPS M1710, which is 3yrs old, I seem to have a faulty power adapter and I'm in the same boat as these people on Dell's website
Any ideas? Should I just order the replacement, or kick up with Dell? Anyone got any experience with them on that front?
Depends on your guarantee contract. Unless it is covered for 3 or more years then you have no option but to buy a replacement.
It ain't. Figured as much. It's just that if you read the comments on their site, the design is obviously flawed. Is it safe to get an alternative adapter that will supply the same figures?
If the replacement is matching the specs of the original I would think there would be no problem. But check specs carefully such as input voltages, output voltages, wattage etc.

If you think it's a design flaw I'd argue it with them, but probably get another adapter in the meantime
