My pal has a small business and is looking to sell products on ebay.

I personally dislike and don't trust ebay but, he asked me about it, so I'll pass on any useful info I can.

Anyone know how different this is from selling privately? And have any of you chaps / chapettes done it?

Many thanks

Spreadie

If you're selling in bulk then you need to open an eBay shop really and increase your limit with Paypal, this will let you sell for longer time periods and works out cheaper in the long run, ofc calculat ethe overheads, inc final value fees, because they're very high, a £400 item costs £40 to sell PLUS advertising and Paypal fees, I think this final value fee is a little lower if you have a shop.

Also, you're liable for tax etc. selling as a business on eBay. The tax people know all about it these days, unlike day gone by.

I have a friend who has made his living from doing so for about 7-8 years now, if you've got any specifics then feel free to ask and I can pass them on.

I think he wants to understand the mechanics of it, how the account is administered, and how well structured it is.

For instance, is it just a case of an email from ebay stating an order has been placed? Or is the system more advanced, allowing integration of the ordering process into standard stock control applications at the company end.

More details on Paypal's end of things would be nice too, based on leeds_manc's reply.

You're best taking this to eBay's own help forums, they have a help community where i think they pay people to help on the forum.
