I just don't get how the UK has turned into a pandering to complaints country.

I mean, seriously, if your skin is so thin that such a comment causes offence then consider yourself lucky to be living in a cotton wool clad society.

It's not healthy, for the individual nor for the society.

The comments are on YouTube, of course.

To be honest, if you are in the public eye - and being a sportsman/woman puts you there just as much as being an actor or a singer, you have to be aware that you are a target.

Being a target for what you are in the public eye for is fair enough, if this girl was a model and someone commented on her looks, then yeah, cool.
But I don't think derogatory comments on how someone looks just because they are an athlete is fair to the person being made fun of at all.

Of course it's not "fair", if by that you mean "nice".

However, there is a huge difference between the rule of law dictating what is "criminal" and what is "nice".

I really wish everyone was nice. I wish everyone was excellent to one another, and we could all party-on. That's not reality though.

I personally have never been on national TV and taken the mickey out of someone's appearance, but despite my belief in Karma I confess it's something I do in private between friends quite a lot. Gossip is bad, but it's nearly irresistible.

Some people need boil themselves and grow a tougher shell.

Seriously; would you be upset if someone made a "His head is such a perfectly reflective parabola it refracts tachyon beams" joke?

Personally I find Boyle's humour to be nasty, childish, puerile and not really very funny. However I also find it unsettling that these complaints have been upheld.

It's not the first time that he's made these types of comments and I dare say it won't be the last. His way of being "funny" was to be as offensive as possible about everybody mentioned in the show - he was very fair and consistent in that everyone got a dose. Knowing that, I don't think anyone over the age of 8 should be insulted by him - one should more reasonably feel sorry for him having little talent.

No I don't like what he said but the comment was not nearly the worst thing he's said. If he's to be censured over this then a lot of TV comedians would have to apologise for most of their acts. Furthermore I notice that nobody's complained when he's made a fat Prescott joke - if Prezza's a legitimate target then so's this adlington woman. These days the only allowable butt of a joke has to be white, male, able-bodied and heterosexual - anything else and you're instantly racist, sexist, homoeroticophobic or anti-disability.

Boyle - say something nice and grow up
Adlington - get a thicker skin and grow up
British public - grow up

It's all over-blown, Daily mail-esque, whipped-up b0ll0cks and it should go away. IMO

:x

But she found the comments about being dirty, because she can hold her breath ok? :?

I watched the clip and, well, he isn't funny. I'm with rusty, he is puerile in his comedy.

I suspect it was Darth Mandelson that had someone at (probably from News International) make the complaint, then make it again and again.

I'm really starting top think this country is some sort of social experiment to see how much [LIFTED] people will take, a bit like communist Russia, before it was returned to capitalism.

Frankie Boyle rocks, he was the only reason I watched Mock The Week.
