If you want to get your crappy years in perspective consider that my dad died in October at the age of 62.

I know that doesn't pay the bills, but things could be worse, that's all I'm saying.

My dad also died in October, aged 66, and I agree with adidan.

Edit to add: Having said that I do believe that my loss has also made me a stronger person, and if anyone out there does need an ear to bend I'm only a PM away.

I am sorry for your loss, but you can't go around comparing one life to another when the other has no effect on you in the slightest.
There's always someone worse (and better) off than you.

I intended it to be helpful, I know how easy it is to get hung up on the crap things, rather than making a judgmental or qualitative comment Mark.

This is, rather unfortunately, very true. (8+(

Indeed it is, and it is also true that I can be rather cak handed when it comes to trying to convey my intentions on forums and texts for that matter. :D

In another thread I believe he said he'd just met a girl, so I'm guessing long conversations to eachother are the culprit.

It's a bit of a bugger that, especially across the channel.

I'm so glad I had a PAYG phone when I met Mrs. V, (although I did used to go through £30 - £40 per conversation, and I used to tell her I had a contract phone to stop her spending money on credit for hers, 'cos that's how nice I am!)

We all seem to be having something on an annus horribilis 'round these parts, don't we. I at least seem to be on the up, slowly, having only money & uni/work issues nowadays.

Well, let's look on the bright side.

At least out of all this he should get a major whack of Brownie points (careful JV! :D ) if he happens to mention the amount he's forked out because he couldn't not speak to her. ;)

It is partly the new girl (a fact that I can't even get excited about right now). But mostly, I just can't shut the [LIFTED] up.

At least you learnt your lesson (albeit the hardway). I did something similar though not as severe. Back in the day when Nokia 3310s were the range, and I had the 3330. First year of uni. Was on £10/mth contract and met a girl, ran up a bill of £100. Bank refused to pay as they thought it was fraudulent. After that, I've been careful with my usage.

What’s wrong with having a PAYG phone? That way you know how much credit you have left, and you can’t overrun.

About three years ago, I switched to PAYG. My usage had changed and I saved money too. The only annoying thing was I'd run out of credit at the wrong moments. Thankfully, using T-mobile, I was able to send a text and, hey presto, more credit. None of having to buy top-ups etc.

I accidentally scratched my car a week ago. A flawless repair will cost £1k. :( But it will be flawless.
