I can't believe what I'm typing: this is a drama-documentary that imagines a world in which Britain has a) Reinstated the death penalty for murder and paedophilia, b) Changed the law so Britons can stand trial in this country for crimes committed abroad, and c) Chosen Gary Glitter as its first test case. It blends archive footage, talking-head interviews with Miranda Sawyer, Garry Bushell and Ann Widdecombe, and dramatised scenes in which Gary Glitter is led into an execution chamber and hanged by the neck until dead.

It's Channel 4, but that's no excuse ;)

Seriously though, how messed up is that concept? 'How many people will tune in to see a 'top' (here TV fictional) paedo get lynched?'

For the first time in my life, I'm considering watching this sort of thing for myself just to see what they do with it, then almost inevitably complaining to Ofcom that this is a load of b0ll0cks and has little right being on TV, weird-beard paedo or not

As Brooker somewhat points out, most people have a good idea of their opinions on capital punishment without needing some fictional, done for ratings, 'docu-drama' to help them

I really do despair at the sh1te that gets aired on TV these days :( , but what do you think?

I'm with you, I was a bit gob smacked when I read about it in the paper. I had seen the advertising Clips on TV but thought it was a doco about his arrest etc but when I read it was a drama... I thought WTF?

Will I watch it? probably... just to see how bad it is.

And there we have the justification for making it.

Sounds like complete sh!te.

Is this the kind of dross we can expect to fill the hole left by Big Brother?

I suppose it was too much to ask for some decent programming for a change.

I think the quality based on some of the recent shows I've watched, has never been higher. unless you're restricting that to Channel 4 which has fallen a little flat of late. ;) The BBC are really flying the flag at the moment.

Yes, I was talking about Channel 4. I would agree that the beeb are doing well, and have been for some time.

I watched Life, HD, 42", plasma.

The word 'awesome' is so over used, but here it is apt.

Wild Life programs in HD make it all worth while, Planet Earth was showing when I first got my Panasonic Plasma and HD box and I was blown away.

BTW I’ve changed my mind I'm not watch the Gary Glitter charade now.

It is isn't it. I thought it was just me. I'm getting the irresistable urge to punch anyone that uses it lol. Luckily you're at the other end of a computer :)

C'mon Carolyn - You and me against the entire population of the United States! Boxing gloves optional, though probably not advisable as I find that a gloveless punch hurts so much more ;)

But when given the chance to actually put her money, (or fists in this case) where her mouth, (technically speaking it would be "where a lot of Americans mouths, as they always say "awesome" for no reason") is she says... No!

Women, eh? ;) :P  :etc:

There used to be a bloke in work who, no matter what the recent film, said it was 'awesome' - the last Indiana Jones, I Am Legend, AvP2... If you'd believed that guy, you'd have started to wonder what was wrong with you
