I don't see a problem here... It has been known for a long time that hacking an XBox 360 to play pirated games (does it also allow the use of sniping type software, like PC players sometimes use?) will get them banned, so they only have themselves to blame.
Most of the on-line games I've played have had similar terms of service. Mod their code (allowing sniping mods or to get around in-game obstacles etc.) will get you banned.

No sympathy for them really. If they chose to violate the terms of service then they have to accept the consequences.

How much do you wanna bet that will come back to bite them on the arse? They'll inevitably cut off somebody innocent and/or be looking at court cases

Meh. I don't bother with Xbox Live. It's full of 10 year old kiddies who glitch and run around screaming "LOL I F*CKING PWN UR NUB ASS LOLOLOLOLOLOOOLOL!". And it's quite laggy too. However, If I wanted to play on Live, i'll enjoy my iXtreme firmware and stealth patched games

Thing that annoyed me most of all was the "I'm poor so I pirate because I can't afford it" No, he pirates because he chooses to not pay for it. Playing computer games is a privilege not a right. I hope he gets arrested and they throw the book at him for being so stupid. If you are going to do something illegal you 1. Don't go to a huge organisation complaining that you got caught 2. Don't ask publicly for help on how to do it (Brad) 3. Don't expect everything to work, or be able to do everything a paying customer can 4. Don't complain when it goes wrong It's like people in the states calling the police when someone rips them off when they bought crack

I personally think the community needs to take a harder line on these things - such as a forum ban for admitting to torrenting games or even asking how to do it. We've already seen from MW2 how quickly users of a particular platform can be screwed over.

You're right. I could afford games, but I choose to put my money towards more important things like maintaining my bike and racing funds. I suppose pirating has taken off so much because games are just so accessable. You have google, and you can find just about anything on it. And the torrent sites too; Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox was on them for about a week prior to its proper release. Needless to say, I went and actually bought MW2 and Forza 3. But he's the kind who's a bum, living in his mum's house and has no social life. Then he goes and whinges to a corporation because he got banned. He knew the risk, so why moan about the inevitable. That frustrates me.

I like how they timed this for maximum annoyance; getting banned the same day MW2 was released

I reckon they used the COD6 release to catch the piraters out, possibly release a hacked version themselves that sends a packet when they are logged onto live, or perhaps they just saw who had played before it was released.
