Don't want to be the voice of doom, but I was in a similar situation a few years ago. I though my job was safe, had been told it was safe because I was a vital part of the organisation, and then I was made redundant three months later.

Then again, that employer was a total @rse and couldn't run a bun fight in a bakery.

Yeah I know there's not guarantees but I work for a different company to the rest of the people here.

I actually thought Alex was correct.
I too thought it was 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month.

Mark

EDIT - This Wiki clicky proves me (and Alex) wrong and Heather correct.

Should be interesting... or a total disaster. :D

It's often best that way. You'll pick up stuff that veteran users of the system take for granted or assume. They can then just tell you what functionality you've not included, and probably go away and improve its visibility somewhat, after the documentation has been written.

Well, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting but I think I know why nobody seems to make regular use of the feature. It's rubbish, at least compared to the other software functions. Still, there is little point in loosing functionality when it doesn't take very long to add it.

As things continue to make life exciting and exercising, the ring main loop in my part of the house (on a separate spur to the rest of the building) decided it wasn't going to work and the master circuit breaker tripped.
After switching everything off, and unplugging everything, and even putting the sockets to the off position, it still didn't want to know.
Left it over night, tried to reset it this morning, and success!
Until I switched the Mac on, which lasted about 3 seconds.
I think it's time to call the electrician.

Strange I had a similar thing happen to me.
My power tripped the other week & took out the neutral coming in to my house. A sparky worked out the downstairs ring was faulty and made a temp repair. This then blew on Tuesday at about 1am (almost exactly 2 weeks later to the minute).
Strange thing is is that it can't be an appliance as I've got everything plugged in via extension leads.
Replacing the ring is going to cost me £750

I've rung the sparky who installed the RCDs on this circuit. We talked through what I'd tried, and suggested isolating the garage supply (which is also fed from the same spur).
One flick of a switch in the garage later, and my supply in the house is working again. And the Mac's ok after losing power so soon into a boot. Twice. :)

So I guess we'll be seeing Neil the Sparky at some point, cos no power in the garage isn't a long term fix.

Hmm, none so far, spoke to our MIS who promptly said "We don't support W7" which is frankly [LIFTED] because if they support a global remote access server then surely they should be able to support it with any and all OS being used by it's users? *Grr* He's sending me a link to something else which may work better. I guess we'll see when it gets here

White van man/woman an advanced driver - bit of a contradiction that Heather :D

Well done though on getting up and doing something about your situation and not sitting back and raking in benefits. Oh, sorry - not single, lesbian, European, seven babes by twenty fathers material are you? (Apologies, the wife has just had to house a young lady (loose term) of similar circumstances over a semi-retired, homeless disabled couple who have worked all their lives and not claimed a penny of benefits). I do wonder about our society these days?

Not really. I let my IAM membership lapse - I never got the full benefits from it, and they've upped the membership sub by a substantial amount. I expressed my displeasure and resigned.
