My HP vista laptop keeps saying no audio output device installed and it has a red cross on it...please help i havent got any sound!!
I read somewhere on the internet that i have to go to control panel then device manager.then to sound video and game controller to update the driver from there...But i havent got sound video and game controller on there so im stuck....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have Vista but if you have My computer on your desk top right click it and select manage, then device manager. In the list of devices that then appear you will see teh problem items marked up. right click it and select update drivers.

I may be slightly astray with the wording as I haven't Vista but it should be about right.

Are you sure you just haven't disabled the audio device?

Right-click the Sound icon in the notification area, and choose Playback Devices. On the Playback tab, right-click an empty spot of the window, and put a checkmark next to "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".

See if your sound device re-appears and you can re-enable it.

thanks for the advice linux user when i right click on the volume control in all tabs its says theres no devices installed...but there was i dont know how its stopped working and alun there bit im looking for isnt in the device manager i need the game and sound thing but for some reason its not there...something has taken it off my computer...the other day tho the volume worked and now its stopped again!!! but thanks for your help any way :0)

is there anything under "unknown devices" in device manager? will probably be called "multimedia audio controller"
