My advice would always be pay it all off before the end of the finance term or they might add interest on at some crazy rate (29% e.g.) and back-date it from the start of the agreement.

Yeah, that is where they seem to make their money, Veato, on people who either can't afford to pay it off after a year and then slip into the automatic finance deal or those who "forget" i.e. are reminded and fall into the finance deal.

I'm going to say it then.. I've never had a problem with Dell. Since buying my first "not home built" PC from them, (back in the 286 days) I've always found their machine to be reliable. There, I've said it. And yes, I do advise people who ask me which laptop to buy to look at the Dell website. There, I've said that as well!

Thanks for the input people. I was looking at a Studio 17, but the Studio 15 had £300 odd quid off with the i7 processor, which is 1.6 - 2.8 (with Intels Turbo boost) and Hyperthreading. I had a look at a Core 2 Studio in PC World (but would never buy there) and the build is pretty good. The rest of the spec is also generous, ATi 4570 GDDR3 discreet with HD4200 on the chipset, so it switches from one to the other like the Macs with the 9400/9600 setup.1920x1080 LED screen, 4GB DDR3 1333, JBL speakers, 500GB 7200RPM disk (this was part of the offer), illuminated keyboard, and some other bits and bobs of note, comes to under £700, the only options I added were the higher res screen for 80 and a purple microsatin finish.
As the build seems ok and the components are generic (i.e Ati, Intel, Seagate etc) I don't see anything coming close to it on value.

Dell? *shudders* We've recently moved to them as a supplier and I have never had so much trouble. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole myself but everyone is entitled to their opinion

Just get a new 0% interest rate credit card. It would be less hassle imho and you could use it for other things too...

I did that for some stuff fairly recently (also a good offer for spending x on it), just make sure it's paid off in time and you don't miss a payment!
