I've had home brewed Sake before. It wasn't bad, though I've never had real Sake to compare it to.

Was it actually brewed the traditional way, or was it just rice "wine" like mine? Sake is made from rice and a special kind of fungus which converts the starch into sugar, a bit like malting barley. Sometimes a bacteria is used. This goes on at the same time as the yeast turns it into alcohol, which all gets very complicated to keep balanced. I wouldn't even know where to buy the right mould. I just use some some rice for flavour, and add refined sugar. It's easy and I can buy it in Tesco. You can buy Sake in the supermarkets too. It's not that good, but it's worth trying once. It's usually next to the sherry.

I have no idea. I suspect it was probably just rice wine really. Though the person who made is the type to invest a bit of time and effort in things, so you never know.

A "nice" cup of tea from the machine. Its saving grace is it is free.
