Meh, it's just a game of football... Fifa should probably reschedule the match, but I think the comments are right, both governments should keep their noses out of it.

The ref's decision is final. If he didn't spot it, tough. We didn't get a replay what that fat drug taking Argie did it for that very reason.

I agree the game is over, the ref didnt spot it and thats football. Even so I have some thoughts...
1) Henry is a cheat. 2) I feel sorry for Ireland as thats a crap way to not make it to the finals 3) Unless some sort of video technology comes in then this will continue to happen including dubious penalty awards, etc etc

If there is a re-match (which there wont be) will Argentina v England have to replay their 1986 World Cup quarter-final game....

Yup, but I actually feel Henry will be caused sleepless nights by this unlike Diego who turned it into a miracle. Edit: Interestingly, the French Economy Minister has said that FIFA should replay the fixture. It's not going to happen though, unless the French team ask for it. Much of the French public and press feel quite ashamed about qualifying in this way. Perhaps video technology may finally come in for contentious issues, I can't see the Europa League "let's have 28 Officials on the pitch" taking off. What happens when they disagree with each other BTW?

or England vs Germany replay the 1966 WC final I don't think you could replay it, it would set a horrible precedent. What if every time a ref got an important decision wrong we replay the match? It'd never stop. And what would happen if there was a controversial decision in the replay? Would we replay that as well?

It's a game. The story made the front page headline on the Belfast Telegraph. Front page! It's an effing game and it bumps every other news story because poor old Ireland got knocked out of a competition. I think people need to get some perspective over this.

The BT has needed to get some perspective for quite some time

To be fair its an event that happens only once every 4 years, its the (i think) biggest played sport in the world and its not that often that they would have a chance to qualify either. I think that makes it fairly big news.

I think that's feeble justification.

I don't recall this kind of an outcry (except in UK) when Maradonna cheated the English team. Please can we have a sense of perspective: its a game, nobody died. Get over it.

I'd say the same if it was anyone. Doesnt matter that he used to play for Le Arse.
