I only want to use this machine for minicom, and I just installed CentOS on it, but the graphics were dodgy. Mouse was slow across the screen basically, so I went dabbling and told it to use a different driver (did that through the GUI).
Now, when I boot it just tells me that X Server can't load and asks me for the root password. After entering it, it's an infinite loop of trying to load X Server and failing.
How can I a) get it to boot into CLI and b) roll back the driver?
Here's a thread that indicates how to boot into the CLI.
Not sure about changing the driver...There may be a file in /etc you can edit, or perhaps a utility to do with X.Org, or whatever the X server is called...
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I've not been able to get it working again, so I've left it for now.
I was doing it so I can use my new Cisco kit, but now I've got a USB/Serial converter and sorted out a Mac driver for it.
It works fine, and I can access the device configs and make all the changes that I need to. The only problem is when I quit screen, and I'm hoping that either you or someone else here might be able to help me with it.
Basically, when I quite screen it locks the device, and any subsequent attempts to use the port result in an error saying that the port is busy. I don't know why this is, because I'm quitting screen properly, and even closing the terminal window in which it was running.
Do you know why/how it's getting locked, and how I can stop it from happening? At the moment, I'm just pulling the cable out after I've closed the program. This gives me an error, but it does clear it so I can open screen again and configure the next router.
No worries, I can live with it how it is. It's just not very "Mac". But then again, screen in the terminal isn't very Mac either so perhaps it's right and proper that it doesn't work properly?
