I can see the PS3 slim doing well this year, most people have had at least one 360 and are either getting a 2nd console or have got to know UPS better than they would have liked. Plus there is a far better games lineup either just released or coming in around Christmas compared to the shower of sh** on the 360's game shelves. Blu-ray is continuing to gain traction too.

And I suppose the Wii will smash both of them. A cheaper bit of fun. I don't think the bubble has burst yet.

I'm afraid the signs are that it has. Wii sales have actually been falling for the best part of the last quarter and they don't really have anything coming up to Christmas that will encourage a lot of new sales like Wii Fit did for example. It's entirely possible that the Wii market is reaching if not saturation point then at least the top of it's sales curve. As to the 360 vs the PS3, I think it may well be that they end up selling roughly equivalent numbers over the christmas period. Jon

What's coming out on the ps3 that's not coming out on the xbox? The big Christmas games that anyone will care about are multi platform (COD6/MW2, Forza 3, Assassins Creed 2, FIFA10 etc etc).

Forza 3 is Xbox exclusive, and so is L4D2.

There are decent exclusives on both consoles this Christmas (although I think Forza 3 possibly was released too long ago to have a genuinely big effect on Christmas sales) but the truly big games (MW2, FIFA 10 & Assassin's Creed 2, basically) are multiplatform so it's not the defining issue. One major question will be will people wait to see if, like last year, there is massive discounting on all the marquee games in the last few weeks before Christmas as retailers desperately attempt to sell overstocked goods in the face of a recession. 2009 or 2010? If it's this year FUUUUUU because I just basically spent my christmas money in advance on new hardware. If it's next year then I might just buy a PS3 just for GT5. But if its anything like GT5P was and GT Mobile, I won't.

2009 in Japan, allegedly. Course the PS3 isn't region locked. It's been the same bloody game for about 10 years, you either like it or you don't. Jon

Actually, when I was browsing in Game, waiting for the missus, it was announced on their "Game Live" radio thing as a 9th December release and up for pre-order.

I was in the large Sainsburys in London Colney the other week, and their catalogue had GT dated for December too. I thought it might have been some kind of error. It would be nice to see it this side of Christmas, but I’m not holding my breath for a March release any more.
