Dunno if it's more of a Celtic thing, but 'blocked' over here means severely drunk

Good. Why should those of us who drink responsibly be punished.

As a student in my final year I support this with the block, saying that I don't drink a huge amount anyway any more, instead going for better quality drinks as opposed to the usual cheap nasty cider/lager/alcopops

Cheap booze is already so expensive that the cost has serious impact on many of those dependent upon it. Increasing the cost further would increase levels of debt, increase crime, increase imports, increase methanol poisonings and increase the destitution of many families.

In any case, the last year or so has seen a 30% increase in the cost of Tesco value whisky so I've already had to resort to making my own from trees and roadkill.

It should be obvious that you can not cure a problem by taxing it. Just look at fuel and cigarettes; many trucks on our road are running on imported diesel and many cigarettes smoked are black market.

It's the fact I never really drank a huge amount for the past few years, and as I'm driving so much I'd rather not risk still being over the limit the next day

Sorry – Dependant on it – If they have a dependency on Booze then that’s called Alcoholism and they should get some help

Cheep booze is cheep – a 2 ltr bottle of White Lightening Cider is next to nothing

Actually I am in 2 minds over this

On one hand I am against the government doing this as its another tax that will increase every year until like petrol tax its just a money making scheme dressed up in “heath” credentials. Also why should the majority be punished (be told to pay more) for the sins of the minority

I also don’t think it will make one iota of difference

On the other hand the quality of Beer / wine / spirits I drink theses days is more expensive than the min price so will not be affected by this “tax
