Now I have a Xbox 360 can people recommend some good games?
Ideally
A good driving game
A beat em up style/action game
A RPG
A casual fun game.

This is my first console since my megadrive got stolen in 1997.

Batman Arkham Asylum for the action/beat em up game at least - I think you'll love it, it's pretty hard to fault 8-)

And if you want to combine genres somewhat, GTA4 :D

Forza 3 is one of the best driving games. Either that or DIRT 2. That game is almost sexual.
Beat 'em up would have to be Wet. Really really fun game.
RPG: Obviously Mass Effect. I haven't played much of it, but it seems really good.
Casual fun game: See if you can find a copy of Beyond Good and Evil. It's an Xbox Original, but it's really fun to play, and the story is compelling too.

I have to say I got bored with Wet just with the demo, just found myself repeating the same moves over and over

Can you download the demo for the 360 for free without getting into the whole XBLA bit?

Though there's some sort of free weekend with that this weekend IIRC :?

Here it is (I think):

I must be the only guy in the world who doesn't like Forza 3!

I downloaded the demo and found it really frustrating. It treats you like a kid. Painted lines on the track and automatic braking? wtf

That would be due to the fact you put it on noob mode . :P

Once you turn it onto like pro, you get no assists or autobrake. Even a full manual transmission with a clutch too!

I've not played it, but I had Forza 2 and that annoyed me for different reasons, mainly because it didn't look very good and the car handling was faulty and rode roughshod over real-world physics. Forza 1 was excellent though.

Driving Game: As others have said, Forza for realism and I'd say PGR4 for a more arcade style.

Beat 'em Up style Action Game: Batman Arkham Asylum as others have said for the more easy-to-pick-up accessible types and I'd say Devil May Cry 4 or Ninja Gaiden 2 if you want a different sort of challenge (much more... "skill based" i would say).

RPG: Mass Effect or Borderlands... the former is an RPG in the sense of story, "playing a role". The latter is more like RPG in the sense of stats, numbers and loot.

Casual fun game... what type? Like finlay said, Borderlands can be quite casual... Modern Warfare?

Having played Borderlands (completed playthrough 2 today, 100% complete on achievements including DLC) and played Mass Effect..... I honestly didn't enjoy Mass Effect as much as I have borderlands

I really think it was because of the crappy minor planets you could lant on were all practically identical to each other, and the game just felt very slow and self important. I finished Borderlands twice in 60-65 hours of in game time, I didn't finish Mass Effect in that twice. The game just was too sluggish for me

If you liked Diablo though.... get Dragon Age: Origins.

No experience myself, but what do the peeps here make of the Assassins Creed series (for the action game)?

Or how about the Lego series (Indiana Jones, Batman, Star Wars) for the casual games? They should be dirt cheap by now too :)

EDIT - Something to consider:

Resi Evil games? Streetfighter? Again, both should be quite cheap...

When it comes to the lego games, they just don't appeal to me at all.

I've been told that they are really good fun. Not serious at all just a bit of a boredom buster.

I can't see the appeal though it all sounds a bit strange, batman made out of lego running around picking up lego bricks wtf? But whenever I say that to people they always say "I know it sounds crap, and it is a crap concept but it just works!"

It's weird, but they are kinda throwback fun, and some actually have decent little puzzles and mini-games :D

I'd only buy them cheap though ;)

As i stated before, i think Mass Effect and Borderlands are completely different types of RPGs, Borderlands is more akin to just "Go here, Do that, Kill X of These" etc. and the main "Role Playing" element is how you develop your character's skills and abilities as well as getting loot. Mass Effect on the other hand is more of a "traditional" story telling RPG where you're given a character and it's up to you how you want that character's story, abilities and "reputation" to progress.

I do admit that Mass Effect has quite a few flaws, the elevator loading times, the repetitive minor planets (which you don't actually have to go to though) and the "appearance" of choice (ultimately all choices seem to lead to a confrontation or talking your way out of a confrontation). However despite that, i still think it's probably one of the best RPGs of late and it's style just doesn't really lend itself for comparison to Borderlands since they appeal to different audiences (or moods).

With Borderlands I can just go around and kill things without thinking and the most thought i put into anything is whether or not this gun i've just found has better stats than the one i'm currently holding. With Mass Effect it's more like how can i use this power to lock down this group of enemies whilst taking on that lot over there, combined with how exactly do i want to treat these terrorists who have taken this person hostage albeit for what could be a good reason?

And as for sluggish, i'm pretty sure i could easily complete a game of Mass Effect in... under 20 hours say if i didn't go exploring all the worlds and completing all the sidequests since they're there if you want to learn about the "universe" and explore/kill some time rather than being integral to the whole storyline. Ultimately, i'd say if you're more of the KoTOR, Fallout, Baldur's Gate type RPG'er then Mass Effect is more for you, however if you prefer the likes of Diablo, Titan Quest and Too Human then Borderlands would probably be more up your street.
