I know I'm bashing it a bit here but I thought of something else it doesn't do (although I suppose it's only relevant in games).

You can't left and right click concurrently.

i.e. once your left finger is down you can't click with your right finger.

One question, can you hold a file with click and drag and then scroll (say in finder to find a folder to move the file to).

You can't with the current Mighty Mouse, so I'm guessing no...

No, there's no 'click' lock function. You don't actually need to do that in most Mac OS X apps anyway - if you're drag and dropping an object onto a list, usually if you place the object (while holding the mouse buttons down) at the bottom/top of the list it scrolls anyway..

I had a play with one in PC world yesterday.

I must say that it's the absolute worst mouse I have ever used. The clicker has bugger all feel to it and is too easy to push, it's much too thin and light, the laser thing is much too inacurate, the multi-touch doesn't work very well and did I mention it's much too thin?

You'd have to have absolutely tiny hands with no fingers to use this mouse well. Put it this way. It's not a patch on my MS IntelliMouse I have for my desktop. Even the nipple thing on my Thinkpad is more accurate than the magic mouse.

Not flamebaiting or trying to piss people off, I just think it's a stupid concept that doesn't work in practice.

Thankyou, drive though. :)

Given I'm managing to reply to this using one, I'd have to say you're wrong. Althogh the point about not being able to click both mouse buttons at once does hold.

You probably have to take into consideration the number of chavy kids who seem to frequent PC world these days, what all the sample kit gets put through and how little the staff give a crap. I was looking at their cameras recently and some knob had actually put stuck chewing gun on the lens of one of the cameras. Obviously been there for a while, none of the staff had even noticed.

I know what you're saying Jon, but does the mouse get worn down to a unusable size when chavs use them? :)

That's my main complaint to be honest. It just doesn't feel substancial enough in your hand, whereas my IntelliMouse feels rugged and well built.

And the Magic Mouse is alu, so it'll be freezing cold in a morning and greasy after you ate a bag of crisps at your pc.

It's plastic on top.

I have one, and I like it. The thinner a mouse is, the more comfortable I find it to use. I can’t get on with those really chunky mice that people seem the favour. They make my hand and wrist feel all “crampy”.

I went down to Cardiff yesterday, visited the new Apple store three times! Played on the Magic Mouse, BEST MOUSE EVER! I love the feel of it, definitely want one for Christmas!

No, I'm saying that, as oppose to one person using them for the job they are designed for, you've got N people a day coming in picking them up, opening the battery compartment, shaking them, slamming them on the shelf etc. Being a demo unit in PC world is not in any way akin to such devices' normal working environment.
Next time you go in have a look at the digital camera section. I can tell you now a large chunk of the cameras will have bits missing, loose covers on battery compartments or just plain won't be working at all. Does this mean all digital cameras have a lifespan measured in months? No of course it doesn't.

Checking a mouse out in PC world does have some value - the ergonomics of things like mice are a very personal choice. But to measure reliability on whether PC world's demo units are working or not seems to me to be an act of utter folly.

For what it's worth, I also have two microsoft mice on machines at work, one of which is the original intellimouse explorer bluetooth, which I consider to be possibly the best mouse ever made and, as I have said at least once, I will only be parted from when they pull it from my cold, dead fingers. So this isn't a pro or anti any particular company stance. It's simply saying you're making a judgement based on hugely flawed evidence in this particular regard.

Well, I'm just using a Magic Mouse and I have to say that I'm fairly impressed :D

My brother has set it so that a two finger click opens up spaces which is very annoying as I like to rest my middle finger on the mouse when using it.

The lag with the Mighty Mouse is gone and it's a lot more responsive. The scroll err... pad thingy is very nice too. The friction is minimal which makes it very easy to use.

I sometimes find that a trailing finger can cause unwanted scrolls, but this seems to happen infrequently. I like it, and so far, I’ve not had to change the batteries either.

I certainly don’t miss that funny scroll ball the MIghty Mouse had.

Finally got mine yesterday and I love it! It feels really nice, which is a shame as most of my work is keyboard based...

One question: Should I turn it off when I'm not using it? If I do my Mac Pro running latest Snow Leopard updates doesn't recognise it when I turn the mouse back on...I need to use the keyboard to re-activate it. But turning it off (say overnight) should help to pro-long the life of the batteries shouldn't it?

Yep, and it seems to me they seem to chew through batteries anyway. I'm on my 3rd set now, which is you know no great issue but it's more than I'd have expected.

I've found something you can't do with the MM. I was using it under windows last night (bootcamp) playing a game and the game required me to hold the right button down then click the left button. You can't do that with an MM. It's simply not physically possible.
