Aren't cigarettes still made on no-smoking day? Aren't condoms made on abstinence day?
It is to raise awareness, it won't make any change in and of itself, unless a lot of people keep doing it.

There seems to be a lot in the press recently about the amount of CO2 produced by animals. OK so we all become vegeterian. What then happens to all the farm animals? Are they just going to kill them for no reason? We'd soon run out of room to home them, not to mention their food. Do you think they veggie brigade has thought about that? *sigh*

It's unlikely that everyone will become vegetarian over night. However, if the number of meat eaters reduces then they simply need to produce less meat to supply the demand. As in, breed fewer animals for the pot. Very few farm animals reproduce unaided. We're omnivores. You can tell from our pathetic teeth that we did not evolve to eat meat every day, and it's generally thought that a diet with more vegetables is healthier than one high in meat and dairy. Additionally, rearing meat is very expensive in terms of the land required and energy used. The population is growing rapidly, and a meat based diet will not be sustainable if we're to avoid mass famine. However, we're all extremely wealthy compared to most of the world, so why would we care.
