I saw a trailer for this film over the weekend and it just looks like every other animated feature film. I really can't get just what all the buzz is about it.

I've only seen the trailer too, but my general opinion of the film following it was that it was generic waffley chaff, with pretty swirly colours.

Well yeah. Perhaps me calling it an animated feature was wrong, but there's certainly enough animation in it to be one.
And as the synthespians are the main focus of the story I think it's an animated feature by any other name.
Anyway, it's certainly holding no appeal for me, so I'll not be going to see it at the pictures.

Aside from the fact that it has big blue aliens, I have no idea what this film is about...

Sorry yes. I think I mean "animated feature" when I say film. I'm just a bit of a n00b.

Think Titanic meets The Abyss meets any Pixar film and you've probably got the gist of it.

I haven't seen the Abyss either, (that's got aliens as well?) but I think I get the gist. Thanks :)

To be strict, it's never explicitly said they are aliens. They could have been living down there forever, we just didn't have the technology to visit them before...

It's hard to explain, but there's some trailers for it that are horribly put together - some that show individual scenes look great! I'm waiting for the reviews to get a better idea before I lay down any cash...

Right then, explain their manipulation of water and the ships at the end of the film, if you'd be so kind?

Which one is Abyss?

Is that the one where he puts on the SCUBA suit in which he breathes oxygenated water?

Or is that the one with the squid attacking them at the bottom of the ocean because a guy is reading his book?

South Park probably summed it nicely with their 'Dances with Smurfs' gag.
