My other half teaches this kind of thing already. I’m glad it’s being formalised though. However, I’d echo thoughts here that this should not start and stop with schools. Parents have an equal, if not greater obligation to ensure their child’s safety - in both the real and virtual worlds.

+1 Yes, teach the kids but, more importantly, teach the parents.

One year, her school did. They had the parents in to show them how maths is done today.

Like sex education, this is something that should have been taught by parents (where possible).

Educating the parents is almost more important. Most haven't a clue how to use a computer, let alone about securing it from malware or how to protect their children online.
Jessica's Berufsbildendeschule had an open evening a couple of weeks ago, there was a police office from Osnbrück there, who specialises in on-line crime - mainly going after groomers and bullies on social networking sites.
