Right, we're having Christmas at mine this year, so I need to get hold of some Christmas songs to play as background music. I have some on a CD (which I lent to my parents years ago) which I can rip to MP3 as I'll be playing them from my laptop. The rest will have to be (and this is a first for me) bought online.
Part 1: Recommend me an online music store that sells DRM free MP3's that are 192kb/sec or better.
Part 2: Help me compile a list of great Christmas songs that I should rip/buy. They can be new-ish or classics.
I'll update the list as the suggestions come in. If two artists have done one song, I'll pick the one that sounds best.
Black = I like the song, but I'm not sure how many versions there are or which version to buy.
Blue = I'm buying that version
Red = I don't like that song.

Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Chris Rea - Driving home for Christmas
Wizard - I wish it could be Christmas everyday
Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett- Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town
Woody Herman or Dean Martin - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
Judy Garland - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Band Aid (1986) - Do They Know Its Christmas?
Bing Crosby - White Christmas
Matt Monro - Mary's Boy Child
Aled Jones - Walking In The Air
Mud - Lonely This Christmas
Slade - Merry Xmas everyone
Brenda Lee - Rockin Around The Christmas Tree
Perry Como -- Winter Wonderland
Nat King Cole or Stewart Curtis - Frosty the snowman
The Beverley Sisters (who else did it?) - I saw mummy kissing Santa claws
Bobby Helms or Daryl Hall & John Oates- Jingle Bell rock
Boney M - Mary's Boy Child (Oh my lord)
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Wham - Last Christmas
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine

You could do worse than spending a few squids on a "best Christmas album in the world ever, so there and no returns" CD.

I got one a few years ago which was a double CD, with the older classic Sinatra/Monroe stuff on one, and more upbeat "modern" stuff on t'other.

I do have one CD at my parents. But they're all modern ones and I want a few classics too.

Dunno about the bitrate thing (I've only ever bought one MP3 for someone else off Amazon), but this might be useful as a price comparison site:

Oh, and I always liked Shakin' Stevens Merry Christmas Everyone

Chris De Burgh, A Spaceman Came Travelling

Queen - Thank God It's Christmas

Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine

Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry

I always liked the Dean Martin version of Let It Snow - it reminds me of Die Hard
