Apple has dropped, among other things, the G4 computers from their replacement parts catalogue.
Apple announced that hardware support for the PowerBook G4, iBook G4, eMac, Power Mac G4 Quicksilver won't be available from 1st November 2009.
Also appearing in the Apple "End-of-Life" list are: Apple Cinema Displays: ADC 15, ADC 17, LCD 17 ADC as well as the Airport Dual Ethernet base station.
(Reported in the current issue of c't)

UP until very recently I was still using a G4 ibook laptop at work. Very usable machine even now, as long as you put a decent amount of RAM in it. Only reason I moved on was I needed to test SL's Exchange integration.

The ad agency I used to work for had a G3 as their OS X - Safari test bed, 256MB and a 15" LCD monitor...

2 G4 MDD's here at Prof Towers. Perfect for what my father needs, and it's still coping with the demands I've got of it.

What sort do you have ? Mine is the dual 1.25 job, with 1.25 GB of SD ram. 7800GS running into an 'old skool' Mitsubishi Diamond CRT.

This one is a dual 1.25 with 2GB and a 9000 Pro, running a Hewlett Packard P1100 21 inch CRT at 1600x1200. The one upstairs is a single 1GHz (if memory serves) with 768MB and a 9000 Pro running a 17" Mitsubishi CRT.

I know, but I'm currently in the process of eyeing up a 17" MacBook Pro, so it appears that I'll be going Intel sooner rather than later. Mark

As a replacement for, or in addition to, the tower?

It's going to be a replacement. My requirements have changed and I need portability, so I'm going to have to sell the Quad G5 with the Dell screen I have attached. I'll be keeping the 20" ACD.

Still using the G4 tower, Powerbook G4 and iBook G4 at home. Bit sluggish but soldering on.
I might be getting a newer Macbok Pro at work (I still have the one that looks like the Powerbook G4). One of my colleagues has a newer one and he's now dedicated to telecoms so he wont have much use for it - I hope! Keep fingers, eyes and legs crossed for me!

Telecoms software doesn't work on macs. You generally need a serial port or IE for most of it (depending on the system involved)
