They are campaigning against the use of fetal harvested stem cells. By the description, the stem cells used in this case were self-donated i.e. they were part of his own body, so it's no more morally controversial than a skin graft.

For what it's worth I think those campaigning against the use of fetal stem cels are wrong but I don't think this case is related to that debate in any real way.

Some protesters of course are against all forms of stem cell research, but they're even nuttier than the usual fundamentalist Catholic ones etc ;)

The cells were his, but without the research that went before it, I doubt this would have happened.
