Thought I'd make a trip out to get some pictures today as the snow is starting to melt. These were taken at Ightham Mote, a National Trust site near Sevenoaks. I thought driving down the narrow road to the car park was difficult but that was nothing compared to trying to get back up the slope again. I thought at one point I'd have to abandon the car!

Just been out in the van with my dad. A rear wheel drive T280 (biggest engine) Transit with the turbo boost turned up is, well, interesting on the icy roads. :D

Sliding round whole roundabouts FTW! :D

Just had a guy knock on the door asking if he can leave his car in the drive as it was too slippery for him to make it down the hill safely.

I made it up the hill safely enough this morning but with other cars using it today it may be a bit precarious when I have to go to work tonight. Although the road has a southerly aspect it is proper rural, so the hill on the southern side and 8-12" hedgerow lining the road will not help the light dusting of snow we had last night to disappear anymore than creating a fine icy slick in addition to the cars today compacting the snow further.

Lots of snow in Essex where I was staying, no snow in Cardiff or at home though.

Surely you're supposed to be in the middle of summer now? Or have I missed something and your back in the UK? :?

In Carmarthen we have a light dusting, we've bought rock salt to place on the paths here to make going to the garage much safer, and although there are potential legal consequences, we have salted the steps up the the front door too, and it would have been irresponsible to have left them, they were deadly!

My street was in the news! It's a rather steep hill y'see. And also my feet were on it too, as I was walking up the road when they were filming.

Claim to fame man.

What is he, he looks like a welsh collie.

What is he, he looks like a welsh collie.

He is a mongrel, part collie, part Newfoundland and a bit of German Shepherd as well. He is obedient, most of the time, but he certainly takes his time!

When you say sit or come here, he'll look around first, to see why you want him to do something - ooh, sit? Sounds like somebody might be coming this way, let's have a look see.

There's still a bit around here (Surrey). Because the snow has compacted and frozen you struggle to get off the top of our hill by car.

Weather here has been a bit crazy all day. We've had rain overnight (which washed the previous day's snow away), a blue sky this morning, an inch or so of snow and thunder & lightning this afternoon.

It's all calmed down now but my street is a bit off the beaten track and therefore there's no chance of gritting and indeed it's a good few minutes walk to the nearest trough full of road salt. So I guess I'm going to be stuck here for a day or two..

Just been out with Jack. It is getting warmer at the moment, but Tina just rang, she got home safe, but there was a heavy snow storm over her way, which affected visibility a bit.

Weather forecast is for -10°C and more snow over night in this area.

The snow is nicely compacted on the roads now, so driving is a lot easier.
