Tina is working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the Sunday. She gets New Year's Eve off though...

In the last year I worked every public holiday in Oz except New Years day, which I missed the start of on NYE due to sleep. At least when I was working I would have been diving.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

If you replaced the word Gf with "Wife and kids" that'd be accurate for me as well. I honestly wouldn't worry about the cards situation. Those who matter will appreciate them. I suppose you should/could always start thinking about next years cards now though...

We already did. This year's batch had a little note saying we weren't bothering next year. We're making a donation equivalent to what we'd normally spend on waste paper and stamps to our favourite charity, and we've suggested our friends and relatives consider doing the same. We added the phone number and email address so they can contact us in other ways if they wish. Interestingly, we've so far had one friend call us after that, whom we've not actually spoken to in a couple of decades all told, and another emailed to say he's already donated to the RNLI instead of sending us a card, which we thought was nice. I think for non-postal cards, to neighbours and friends we see regularly, I'll design and make cards for 2010.

I don't really stress about much any more and especially Christmas. The wife takes it upon herself to do the cards and I help by 'pouring her a drink' When I was single though I was so organised. Then, one year, I forgot to post the cards it was hilarious. I got myself so wound up about it that I ended up only having a bowl of cerial on Christmas day but recovered my senses and had my Christmas Dinner on Boxing Day. Life's too short and everybody understands about the card thing anyway. Chill, drink (sensibly ) and enjoy Al
