Working at a Hop farm
Most of it was fun but one of the jobs was standing by a conveyor belt while hops whisked passed you at high speed. You were there to pull out any bits of twig. You had to just learn to de-focus your eyes and grab anything brown as it sped by you

Delivering leaflets and cards for a new taxi company that probably didn't even last a year, like so many of them Walked about for hours in the cold doing it, saw some right funny things through people's windows though - some very heavy petting going on between a husband and wife, while their son was sat playing a flute in the corner and not paying them any attention (no fcuking wonder ), a woman sat naked at her upstairs window, a bloke in what looked like a freezing cold living room lying sleeping under a copy of the (at that time) enormous Belfast Telegraph...

I initially read that as 'Working at a Hip-Hop farm'... Now that would be interesting.

The worst job I ever had was retrieving lobsters from Jayne Mansfield's bum.
Not really, the worst job I ever had was as a cleaner/washer upper at Pizza Express.

My dad did some locum work in the pharmacy there. Until his car was damaged in the car park and they refused to pay for it that is. It was a very windy day and the manager had taken the trolley boys out of the car park and put them on the tills. My dad found a trolley next to a massive dint in his car. They refused to pay for the damage saying cars were parked at the owners own risk. My dad argued that they were responsible as they'd taken the trolley boys away. Long story short, they refused to pay so he turned round and said, "right I'm not working for you again unless you do". That meant the pharmacy had to close for several days until they found another locum pharmacist, something that will have cost them a fortune in profits, far more than the cost of the repairs.

I've been very lucky in the work i do,have done.It has on the whole been fun & most of those i have worked with have been good co-workers/friends. The only part that used to peeve me was being on litter patrol when i worked in the Royal Parks. But then it just became part of the routine and i just accepted it. yours wecrookie

But the car was parked at the owners risk. Trolley boys (why do you never see any girls) are required because of lazy shoppers not returning the trolleys, shouldn't you dad have grievances with them, and not the store? However I would probably have had the same response myself.

Now that sounds genuinely unpleasant. I have to say, I've been fairly lucky. I've quite enjoyed even the worst jobs I've done. However, most jobs have their downside. 1. Unpleasant chemicals. Working in a local leather works when I was about 14, one of the jobs involved using super-glue all day. That really made my throat and eyes hurt. 2. Unbearable heat. Working at the service station, I really enjoyed most of it. However, I hated being on "bevs" because of the incredible heat given off by the boilers. I do not handle excessive heat well. I didn't mind the freezer work at all. 3. Stupid bosses who make stupid decisions that make everyone's life harder and reduce productivity. I think most people can associate a little with Dilbert. 4. Stupid or unreasonable customers. Say that to me one more time and I'll tick the "tosser" flag on your account. You'll never get any help ever again

I've only ever done three jobs: one was voluntary (for CV building), one was menial labour, and one's my current job (which is more of a career I guess). With the menial job, I was a general labourer in a small supermarket. I was my first paid job and it was physically exhausting. I learnt the value of a hard day's work. Basically did everything that I needed to - unpack deliveries and store them, ensure the shelves were fully stocked, sort out the store rooms and do anything else that needed doing. The upside of it was that I got on very well with one of the till girls .

If I understand it correctly, no The trolley boys/girls were pulled in to work the tills, it was done by a cnut of a customer.

I think that was what Matt was saying.

How could it be their fault when they were told to come inside? It's a customer/manager grievance IMO, customer for doing the damage, manager for preventing the trolliers from doing their job and preventing that happening

That it was a lazy cnut of a customer that was responsible... Not the trolley boys.
