I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry at that...

I've noticed the fact that there's not been much talk of the Inquiry in the News...

Yes, I was gonna throw that into one of my posts - I don't think it's a coincidence that all the interesting stuff is happening in the run up to Xmas either. Though Tony will have to squirm somewhat no matter what happens :)

Army chief lambasts 'amateurs' in post-invasion Iraq

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8403950.stm

Quote:
He told the inquiry: "We've got huge experience in this country - we're not using it and we're putting amateurs into really really important positions and people are getting killed as a result of some of these decisions.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's seized on by quite a few interested groups, and rightly so...

Removal of Saddam Hussein 'right', says Tony Blair

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8408918.stm

Tony's building up his defence early with classics like this:

Quote:
Without WMD claims it would have been necessary to "use and deploy different arguments," he told the BBC.

Made on:

BBC One's Fern Britton Meets programme

Gordon Brown to face Iraq inquiry - after election

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8428074.stm

Quote:
The delay is to avoid the occasion "being used for political advantage".

Gordon's political disadvantage would be more like it

I think this inquiry will actually outdo Hutton in terms of whitewash :x

Goldsmith was not convinced war was legal even after UN resolution – Chilcot

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jan/1 ... od-chilcot

Quote:
Chilcot was taking evidence from Jonathan Powell, Tony Blair's former chief of staff. In his evidence, Powell said that George Bush had failed to live up to some of the commitments he gave in relation to the Middle East peace process, such as holding a peace conference or devoting as much time to the problem as Blair had done to Northern Ireland. Powell said this was a "major disappointment".

Didn't know old George had promised anything...

Quote:
Powell denied that an attempt was made to "bully" Goldsmith into authorising the war.

However he told the inquiry that it was made clear that Goldsmith could not simply sit on the fence with a legal opinion that said "on the one hand, on the other".

Goldsmith must have thought he had the worst job in the world by the time they were done with him

Iraq inquiry: 45-minute weapon claim 'new' to Hoon

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8466828.stm

Quote:
He told the inquiry he had not known that the 45-minute claim had been given such prominence in the newspapers because he had been in Kiev at the time of the dossier coverage.

Extra body armour was not top priority for Iraq, Geoff Hoon tells inquiry

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jan/1 ... smith-iraq

Quote:
"There were certainly complaints about desert combats. Quite a lot of soldiers went into action in green combats and they didn't like it," he said. But he insisted that this had not harmed their ability to fight, even if morale might have been affected.

He accepted that some soldiers had not had the right boots, but added that there "were not widespread problems of boots melting in the sun".

'BuffHoon', as Private Eye calls him, indeed...

Iraq inquiry: 45-minute claim 'asking for trouble'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8471091.stm

Quote:
The 45-minute claim was put in late and was a "bit of local colour" the secret service would allow to be used.

Oh yes, perk it up a bit there
