Well it snowed a bit last night and then again this morning - about 5 minutes after we arrived back from walking the dog Went into Elgin for some lunch and to look at the A96 and then decide whether to go to Inverness for a shopping trip. Decided to give it a go. Just got back after an interesting trip (others, not me) and recorded a low of -11*C. Didn't bother with the wipers Al

Had about 5cm of snow last night. Which means all the building material is going to be sitting in snow by the time I get to the house this afternoon, to pack it away in the garage!

Just frakkin rain here.
I'm interested to know from those on here who don't like snow, do you prefer rain? Most days here are rainy so I always find it odd when people say they don't like snow.

I much prefer moderate rain to any snow. It's unlikely to flood where I am, therefore rain is much less likely to kill or injure me and we get much more severe traffic disruption from snow than we do from rain. I really hate strong wind though. It causes damage and death, in addition to keeping me awake and closing bridges. I guess a very light layer of snow over here is generally about as disruptive as the very worst wind and rain storms. I just hate anything which leads to death, destruction and mayhem.

I don't like pain and I'm in no hurry to die. I don't like the idea of being sliced apart by jagged metal. Is that not normal? Every accident I've ever been in was caused by someone else, and adding snow to the equation makes pain and death far more likely no matter how careful I am. :edit: you can avoid the sun. A hat won't protect you from a BMW.

I'm in no hurry to die but then I'm not worried about everything that could speed up the process. It just must make it very difficult to live, I mean most accidents are caused in the home but I would imagine you're not constantly worried about the toaster attacking you. I'm not having a go BTW, I just don't like people living in fear.

Difficult to live?? I'm only in fear when I have to drive in dangerous conditions. That's amounted to about 12 hours in the last year. It would have been less if it hadn't snowed. I'd probably experience a lot more fear if he had lions and tigers roaming the village, but we don't. As for damage and mayhem, that's not fear - it's expense and inconvenience. I don't like spending hours in traffic and I don't like paying hundreds of pounds for repairs. I'd rather be having fun and spending money on *nice things*.

I'm going to go on the record as saying that I agree with JJ.
I hate snow. It makes the roads more unforgiving of the idiots who drive around like... well, idiots and it freezes up the paths and makes me fall on my arsh way too often. Might be funny but pleasant it ain't.
I also hate strong winds. I drive a C3 and it's been known for god to decide that she'd like me to be in a completely different lane on the motorway to the one that I am in... not nice.
There are probably more reasons, but the phone is ringing, so I'll leave it at that. For now.

I prefer snow to rain. At least most people tend to take it seriously and drive accordingly. If it rains, we still gets idiots doing 240 down the outside lane. Get snow and it is rare seeing anyone going over 120... People can see the snow and they know it is slippery, so they take more care. They slip and slide to the car, so they slow down, even though the winter tyres offer more grip than their shoes! Here it isn't so bad, you are legally responsible if you don't clear the path in front of your house/establishment, so the pavements tend to be in good condition, most of the time.

How does that work if you're away from home or physically incapable? Do you have to set up a web-cam, check it regularly and hire "a bloke" if it looks slippery? Here it's the exact opposite. You're not liable for the snow, unless you interfere with it. If someone slips after you've interfered with it, then it's your fault. From a legal stand point, sweeping the public pavement outside your house would be utter insanity.

If you are away from home, you are supposed to arrange for a neighbour/friend etc. to help you out. It is reciprical, if they are away/at work when it snows, you clear for them and vice versa.
Where I live at the moment, the woman downstairs gets a discount on her rent to take out the bins, keep the garden tidy and to clear the snow away in winter.

And what happens when she's old and frail? It's seems impossible that the law insists everyone has beneficent friends and neighbours.
