I had to walk two miles to and from school in all weather. I love snow and wind, but my tolerance of rain is not so good, so I'll only venture out if I have to.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

After nearly 2 weeks, our little cul-de-sac (with a 15 degree incline you have to drive up to get out of it) still isn't cleared, and the bin men haven't bothered to turn up and collect the bins for 2 weeks either The whole street is filling up with wind-strewn litter from overfilled bins and recycling bags. It's only a blessing that everthing is frozen rather than rotting.

I haven't the faintest idea how anyone can overfill one of those huge bins although we have a same sized bin for recycling so I guess that accounts for most of our waste considering nearly everything else goes in a composter of one sort or another.

You'll find that councils (even though they may do a bad job) are only required to keep open main roads, and so a small cul-de-sac just won't be a priority for them, no wait it won't be anything to them at all. I live in a rural location which has only had a little snow compared to most of the UK and there is no chance of the council coming round here to clear it, therefore I've been out on the roads with a shovel twice this year already, as have some of the other neighbours. Time to put something in perhaps, rather than complaining that you can't get anything out.

I haven't bothered to put mine out for about a month so I've no idea if they've bin or not. There's one small carrier bag of stuff in the non-recycling bin. The bottles and papers need putting out soon, but the plastic and tin one is probably good for a few weeks yet. The compost bin isn't filling up much either; it's hardly gardening weather so it's just a few Christmas cards. I have never worked out what people throw away. Why would you buy something if it's just going into landfill? Someone said food waste from fussy kids made up most of theirs, but if I put everything I actually buy directly into the wheely bin it would still take months to fill it!

+1 All usual veg waste at ours goes in the composter, left over cooked food (not that there ever is much as it's eaten as leftovers usually or made into another meal) goes in one of these clicky. Our "normal" rubbish bin hardly has anything in it.

Today I've managed to completely fill a wheelie bin with crap that I've accumulated over the years. I've also filled a box full of clothes (and some CDs and PC Games) and taken it down to the charity shop. Still, my room is a mess and full of junk though Although it's a lot better than when I started.

I fill up a black bin about once every 6 months (rest waste), a plastic recycling bag gets filled about once a month and I throw paper out every couple of weeks...
The snow turned to rain during the day and froze back over around 3 this afternoon. Our new house is at the bottom of a 15° hill and it was an ice run all the way down. I could hardly stand on it. We just cleared the drive and salted it, before driving back home. Even though the street was a sheet of ice, I drove out of it without any wheelspin.

So by trying really hard, after several years you managed to fill the bin once I need to do this too. I've lived here for over 10 years, and I've never sorted out my old clothes for charity or my old IT for Freecycle. I have piles of stuff I need to recycle, like about 10 old lead-acid batteries and several "eco" bulbs. I'm still not sure what to do with the bulbs, especially the ones with good tubes A tip for younger people on here. When someone offers you an old computer, just say NO! It only sits in the garage for years, and then you have to get rid of it somehow. Not even the third world want 10 year old computers

As you know I managed to build a reasonable PC from several old ones left on the kerb in Sydney. Even though I knew the hulks I left on the kerb after were worthless to me, they had still disappeared in only a couple of hours.

We've cleared the bit of street outside our house. Others are not learning by example and I've hurt my shoulder so the rest will have to wait. But the council should still bother to try and pick up our waste as they are actually supposed to do (well over half of this is recycling). We only fill half a wheelie bin each week, it's overflowing because some of our neighbours saw the free space

Very sound advice. I still have a box of junk I should take to the recycling centre... Damn you Freecycle!
