Hmm...

My shortlist ...

Half Life 2 (The Orange Box)
World of Warcraft
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
FarCry

I think all of those come pretty high up in the list. (My personal list anyway).

All of them are games that I either couldn't or still haven't put down.

For me though it has to be ... hmm ... I'll have to think on it a bit more.

Not really a game as such, more of a series.

The Penumbra series. Amazing games, just a shame no-ones ever heard of them.

Never played it, never will.

It's all the same for me, yet another WWII based FPS.

FarCry and HL2 are really the only FPS games worthy of entry into any top ten of the noughties list :D Both for the epic story, the game play, the revolutionary graphics (at the time), etc...

IMHO

No, because compared to HL2 it's rubbish. MW and MW2 have ridiculously short stories and it's all action, and I doubt I will play either through again.

I have completed HL2 several times now, and it's been engaging every time. HL2 has an outstanding story, a range of cool environments, a wide range of enemies, and a range of atmospheres. It's full of action and then it's desolate and deserted, there are armed soldiers and then there are zombies and headcrabs. And Ravenholm *still* scares the [LIFTED] out of me, and I've completed the game 4 times.

The original COD for the PC was genius IMO, but I never really understood the fuss about even the newer ones' multiplayer (which seems to be what everyone focuses on). I don't mean the server argument either ;)

I can't be arsed having to look down a sight just to shoot someone who's standing right in front of me :?

For me, game of the Noughties is Batman Arkham Asylum.

No, Modern Warfare 2 is based on Modern Warfare. ;)

FPS Vampire: Bloodlines It may have been buggy to hell but the storyline, the use of the source engine and the (play it in the dark and prepare to wet your pants) haunted hotel level IMHO puts it above HL2.
RPG: Baldurs gate 2 The best :D
Strategic: SHogun: total war the one thats started a series that got better and better.
Onward to divorce: Football manager series

GTA: Vice City. Probably more hours on that than the remainder together.
