Good grief, how difficult is it to report a damaged Openreach street cabinet?
Can I find anywhere on the BT or Openreach websites to do this. No, of course I can't.

The Green Openreach street cabinet round the corner from my house has had the doors prised open so that all the cables are open to the elements (and any enterprising little folk who decide to pull things apart. I would like to report this so that Openreach can come and fix the cabinet before it's further vandalised. Anyone have any idea how I'd do this? All the BT stuff is about reporting a fault on the phone line. There isn't one yet but somehow I'm not terribly confident this situation is set to last with the cabinet doors open to anyone who wants to have a good old poke around inside.

Anyone know how to report this sort of thing. Would it be better going through the local police?

I'd say either police or just phone any BT/OpenReach number you can find, if it's a robot just start pressing random buttons, the robot will get confused and probably pass you to a person who should be able to direct you more appropriately...

Maybe you should report it as Criminal damages to the police?

Yeah, the irony is it probably would be sorted out quicker from your POV by calling the police

Finally got through to a real person at BT. The joy of mashing the keypad until the robot gives up in frustration :D
According to them it's not a BT cabinet. No idea who the d@mn thing belongs to now. Oh well, as long as I'm not about to loose my internet connection due to the actions of some neds.

Tick the "I would like to report damage to Openreach external line plant" option.

If it's not sorted by Monday, drop me a PM.

Thanks JJ.
I've reported it to the local police so they are going to send someone out to have a look at it and then they will report it to whoever.

Green cabinets mostly housed the early warning system....

http://www.phoneman.org/WBpage1.html

Most were sold off to various people ranging from Cable vendors like NTL to others. BT kept some, and some are removed or empty.

They were linked to various places including the nearest ROC post. Which should look something like this :

Our area recently got upgraded by Virgin to deal with the 50mb service. They were using those green cabinets.
