Neither are they going to read all of a 49 page thread, and then an additional 15 pages of a second thread.

I don't see a problem with the way the FPOTD thread used to work, with Mark culling a load of pages every so often...Though if it was a big deal I guess you could say it was more economical to just edit your previous post in such threads...
If the forums can handl3 it, let them grow I say! If it looks like we might run into trouble, cull rather than lock and restart...

I'm unconvinced that culling long threads does anything to to increase performance. It simply fragments the database.
It makes far more sense to simply cull really old posts, which does not lead to fragmentation if they're simply culled in date order.
The old forum was so flaky and random, it wasn't possible to determine any evidence either for or against. The only thing which definitely gave a performance hit was running a search, which is only to be expected on a huge database.
I suggest no culling until the database starts to get really big.

I wish we had a boobie/girly forum, perhaps hidden unless activated per user.

There's one on mine only certain members can see. No one actually posts on it except for Brat complaining that it's filthy

You might laugh, but there's been times when I've been so bored, I've read entire threads where the pages run over 50. Though FPOTD isn't the kind of thread you would read all the way through. Something like KRU"K"KEDUDKDKDS's girl problem thread, you would. Also, with everyone throwing around their email addresses for msn chats, how bout we have a special weekly/bi-weekly/monthly chat session, either on msn or via a dedicate chat channel/IRC?

Don't know if this is common issue of if anyone else has been affected by/noticed it but the Aero Blue skin doesn't have the 'Quote' button on the posts below the text entry box. It's also missing on the main thread view.
I've not looked at the other skins to see if they are affected. But I'm sure you guys can fix it.

I don't know how easy it is to add themes, but if somebody could find one, could we add a theme for mobile browsers? (I'm thinking iPhone).
It would be great if there was some global setting where you could make a theme default for a particular browser!

Be nice if we could have a part where we could advertise things for sale - for example I have some IT parts I want sold (hard drive & HD 4870) so at present have to eBay them

This is currently being discussed, and once legal issues have been sorted a decision will be made, for now you're free to place them in your signature.

Without having to go back reading all eleventy-seven pages, has anyone given thought to how best publicise this place? If we want to keep on pulling in the punters looking for help/advice/whatever on all the things that the forums cover what's the best way to achieve that?
Mark
