SMOKING ROOM???? Do you still have them in Germany? Hope you feel better soon.

They shouldn't do, but it is often down to the general opinion of the people in the office and the management/owners. I'm hoping they will change it. They moved everybody up to the 2nd floor, because it wasn't nice for visitors coming in downstairs, when the whole floor stank of smoke... Now it is even worse, because, instead of 2 groups, they all come up here... :(

Regarding DIY try other things. I thought I could only do decorating and easy bits but I am more than competent at wood work, quite skilled at filling and repairing and even had a go at plastering. I can also do some plumming after being married to a plummer for 5 years. It might not be perfect or up to 'Grand Designs' standard but I can happily sit back and say I did that.

Have a go - you might surprise yourself.

I try, I can do the odd thing, but they are doing all the big stuff, like laying concrete floors, demolishing walls, renewing the electrics etc. and I'm cleaning up behind them, fitting the odd light and scraping wallpaper from the walls. The two walls I did paint, my girlfriend had to go over it again the next day, because I had messed it up! :(

Ahh those pics take me back! Make sure you post them regularly as I find all that kind of thing really interesting.

Still stunned they allow smoking. I thought Germany would be ahead of UK.

I have an image in my mind which is a cross between walnut whips and breasts. I'm not sure what to call it, but I definitely wants to bite it

That looks like a pretty big job. Even if you were the worlds best builder, doing it all yourself and a full time job would take absolutely forever!

I've always fancied doing a place up myself, but although I'm reasonably knowledgeable about DIY I'm just plain clumsy. I can't even saw a true edge, which is something I find quite shameful. I also get bored quickly so many jobs remain in a half finished "it ain't pretty but it works for me" condition, despite the fact that I'm actually a bit of a perfectionist at heart

Heather, are keloids the ones that you can have trouble with growing back and sometimes getting worse? I have another friend who's stopped getting hers removed because they've stopped growing now and she doesn't want to risk them getting bigger again. I may be wrong, but I hope everything goes ok for your healing.

I know. It's a risk. This is the first one I've had, so *fingers crossed* it may heal okay and not be a problem.

I'm keeping everything crossed, just don't pick the scabs :D

At least it's not too painful, but no one likes surgery so fingers crossed here too.

Bremen is lovely.

Yep, it is a lovely town. One of our salesmen lives there and took my girlfriend and me for a day-out around town, including a visit to Beck's Brewery.

You are just up the road from me. I've PMed you my mobile number. Maybe we could meet up, if you have time.

As for the never being away bit I had a year off back in 04/05 ( a sabbatical) and when I got back into work it was like I had only been away for 2 weeks. Same people with the same desk “toys” and with the same gripes – it was very depressing
