My beloved made it and we used proper butcher's norfolk sausanges which shrank. It was totally lush though. He experimented with Jamie Oliver's onion gravy using balsamic vinegar. it was OK but don't think he'll do it again, the vinegar flavour was a bit rich.

I've tried that gravy recipe and found it needed a bit of sugar added, which did make it a bit sweet though! I had to use cheap balsamic though as I didn't want to waste my expensive stuff.

I was thinking of Toad in the hole with baked beans for tea one day this week. I have one egg and a tin of sausage and beans, which should feed me two or three meals.

As I posted in the other food thread, I've been experimenting with other things in the hole:

It's absolutely yummy :D

I think next time I'll make it with spicy meat. I think I'll call it "Fire in the Hole" ©JJW 2009

Went to the pub last night and had sirloin steak with a Blue Vinny glaze, mustard cream and chips. And four pints of cider – so much for the diet.

Turkey and ham pie for tea tonight, the last of the Christmas meats. I have only half a courgette and a carrot, so frozen sprouts will be required.

Since the oven will be on, I'll do roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. I may well put sausages at one end so I can have that tomorrow with beans :)

I can't decide whether to roast the carrot, or perhaps mash it into the pease pudding.

Most importantly, there will be gallons of red wine and onion gravy to drown everything in :D

My last batch of home made wine came out less than perfect :(

I accidentally too much sugar, and the result is a sweet strong brew of about 16% and 1.010 final gravity. It mulls quite nicely though, which is just as well seeing I still have 4 gallons to drink

The moral of this story is, never believe the figures on the side of the box. Also, boiling it with spices makes it better - true for bad meat and bad wine

Going out for a curry tonight for the first time in a few months. To say I'm looking forward to it would be a massive understatement! Back to healthy eating next week I think.

Just looked in the fridge & freezer.
Looks like as the wife was going out tonight she didn't buy any food for today (she likes to plan the meals & hates it if I differ, I like a quite life). Time for some "Ready, Steady, Cook" style cooking.
What can you make with 15 cans of lager, a stocked spirit cupboard (no mixers but XO brandy, single malt, Bombay sapphire & polish vodka), frozen veg, frozen chips, chopped tomatoes, a fully stocked spice & dried herb selection, frozen burgers (chilli & normal), some onions, garlic, ginger & spme ice cubes? (I left out the frozen bloodworm as the fish like that).
