Right now, I'm a director (unpaid, presently) of a new company launched a couple of weeks ago.

By trade, I'm a "creative", which I've really enjoyed for the past decade or more. Increasingly I've found the spark and joy has gone - mainly due to clients who always seem to know better and never want to pay the going rate. So, switching mid-stream to start a new company which may allow me to pursue my interests with more spark seems to be how 2010 is panning out.

Also, right now, I have nil income. I'm owed money, but the start-up isn't going to give me much back for some time, I reckon.

And so the world turns...

I'm a communications engineer.

We design, install and maintain complete data and telephony solutions including line provision. Our fastest growing product is probably SIP. We have quite a few reasonably famous clients, despite being a relatively small company. By small, I mean that I'm the only engineer that isn't also a company director

I seem to spend a most of my time banging my head against brick walls. We're resellers for BT Wholesale and several other carriers, so I provide the end user support while trying to convince the carrier to believe what I say and actually send an Open Reach engineer out to fix the lines. I have to say, BT are probably the most dependable carrier I deal with and they're by no means perfect. Over the last two days, I've been harbouring seriously homicidal tendencies towards TalkTalkCPWTiscali and their obstructive, obnoxious brick wall they call a "help desk". Between them and barely competent third party IT companies, there's a lot more head-banging than actual technical work.

The expression "Why can't you just do your flaming job properly and leave me to do mine" is often on my mind. I suspect the fishes are a lot more cooperative. Image

Be thankful it's not for Citreon. You'd be snowed under given their reliability.

At the moment I'm a student. Come the summer I'll be looking for any work in and around Aber waiting for the Purple One to finish her masters. Then it's off to the real world, probably looking for System Admin type stuff, or a company that will train me up to become an adult trainer for something...

At the moment, I work a crappy agency job in a warehouse. That is, when they don't ring me up to tell me my shift has been cancelled, again.

But, depending on a phone call on Wednesday, I will either be a transport planner or running a sales and distribution office.
