How long until they're everywhere though?

You obviously missed the first part of my post.

Because it's fun and means that we can have a discussion about it?

Time to fit my revolving number plates a la James Bond :D

Now let me see - 3 x plates revolving just before the cameras (at 1 mile intervals) = a comfy 80-85mph can be maintained

All that would mean is your average is taken every 3 miles, and you're then hit with three fines for three cars.

I find the idea that I get anywhere near 70MPH on the motorways that constitute my daily commute to be laughable. My average speed is somewhat less than 20MPH. It would be very interesting if this data could be used to show exactly how well our hugely expensive motorway network is being used (i.e. what the average vehicle speed is) but somehow I doubt that information will be forthcoming.

This reminds me of something that happened to the Purple One's dad.
Two years ago, after having the car for six years, he took the car to a new garage for an MOT. They noticed that the car's paperwork didn't match up with the actual car, basically, the car had been given the wrong number plate. For six years he thought he was lucky and had always managed to slow down in time, where really the DVLA had no idea that he was driving the car...
The plates have been changed now and before everything happened I think he managed to rack up six points in all the driving up and down the country he did...

Surely it'd be public data? Therefore you should be able to find out...

Thoughts? ;)

Nothing that the profanity filter wouldn't delete.

I think the average speed cams work well for roadworks as traffic flows at a constant pace, plus they protect the workforce of course.

I wouldn't like to see it on normal stretches of motorway as I quite happily cruise at 85mph. I think for myself it is quite safe but there will always be someone saying it isn't. :x

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I think the answer to that is depends on road / weather and traffic conditions.

I think it would be for me, too (although not in the Micra), given suitable conditions, but then so would 95% of people. You just can't make accurate assessments of your own driving ability, and anyhoo, everyone should have to drive to the tolerances of the least safe (legal) drivers.

Whilst I wouldn't welcome average speed cameras on the motorways (or in fact any kind of increase to the BB society) it is one of the least radical ideas these morons have come up with.

Now the speed limiters in cars would just be a disaster, depending on how strict it is people would die because they couldn't increase speed when needed.
