I tend to let my speed drift down if someone's doing that to me. They either get the message or overtake. It doesn't work with big trucks, though. Once I've disappeared from the driver's view I'm a goner!

Agreed. I'll even slow down a little, to wind them up. I hate 4x4s. I don't give them an inch, and I certainy don't let them out at junctions.

I believe you but could it be attributed to them being crap drivers as much as it is the speed cameras?

Can I just clarify what you mean by a 4x4 ?
There are a significant number of normal saloon cars that are not off roaders but are 4 wheel drive .
All my cars for years have fallen into this last description but to look at them you wouldn't know they were 4 wheel drive.
If yo live in the middle of nowhere, as I do, its very useful having one in the family and they are not chelsea tractors.

Nope. That's not what I'd refer to as being a 4x4 even though it may very well have 4 wheel drive. Mark

I don’t straddle lanes, but I really, really hate driving so close to those temporary barriers, especially if there is something big and heavy next to me and I have no forward space to get past. I see a lot of 4x4s here - I get that some of the area is agricultural and there are genuine needs to have them. I can spot a farm based 4x4 a mile off. They are usually a bit grubby. The Chelsea Tractor variety gets no grace from me either. The number which think they can just barge out of a side road in front of moving traffic is unbelievable.

I'd like to point out though Alun, that I still wouldn't let one of those out. Coz I'm not a fan. Ridiculous? Yes, but it's just how I role. Ladies get deferred to, as does anyone driving something good looking (unless they appear to be a knob). 4x4s go in the same box as BMW drivers for me. Sorry.
The farmer next door to us has an L200. He might need it, but he could've picked something less knobish.

I don’t need cruise control, but it’s there so I might as well use it from time to time - especially if I need a rest, or there’s the need to make a sandwich, brew some tea or have a light snooze.

My point being that's the SE and it is 4x4 as standard the S isn't but looks identical. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Ok so you don't like x type jags fine. How about this? Vauxhall Insignia VXR

I understand the sentiment here. There is a fallacy that 4x4 cars are safer. That may be true if you are a safe driver from the start, but if you decide that your 4x4 air-bag palace is the safest thing on the road, and your driving deteriorates as a result, then your 4x4 starts to be lass safe. I am reminded of the BIG FAT warnings in my car’s handbook in the sections about Traction Control, ABS and other safety features. It says that the car is subject to the laws of physics, and those features will not stop you from having an accident if you drive like an idiot (I am paraphrasing here). I think people get too complacent too quickly. Oh So the “I have children, I’m important so make room for me” woman in a 4x4 is OK? I find them some of the worst drivers on the road. Always avoid big cars with a “Baby on board” sticker in them. They have a wish to kill everyone.

I give way to people that look like they could use a little kindness. Usually knackered plumbers in clapped-out Cavaliers, agricultural vehicles or lorry drivers Women and nice cars get no special treatment though.
