Anyways. I don't own pajamas or a dressing gown so you will never see me in one, I never wear tracky dacks unless I'm exercising (which isn't enough), most of the time I wear jeans and a shirt, I wear smart trousers and shirts or suit when required, but I only shave twice a week. Does that make me a slob? If so, which part?

If men should shave daily, then why shouldn't women?

Just because it doesn't show, it doesn't mean we don't know.

;)

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Surely that's because in those situatuons, image is everything?

Anyway, I think it's more to do with relaxation of society's rule as well as fashion. It's no longer fashionable to wear breeches or bearskins or togas. Hence with suits (for casual appearances). I too would like to have lived in the 50s when men wore suits and women did as they were told! Just kidding about that last bit but enerally it was a more polite time (or so TV leads me to believe).

I have to wear a shirt and tie for work. NHS states that ties and jackets are not allowed and sleeves must be rolled up. This is apparently for infection control purposes (despite thr fact that there's no evidence for it). I still polish my shoes on a weekly basis though have long since moved from the brush and tin of dry polish to the liquid polish in a bottle stuff.

Women, I agree, seem to have a wider variety of clothes: blouses, jumpers, various tops, trouser, skirts etc and still look relatively smart. I've also seen younger ladies wearing leather skirts. Mind it's only thr younger girls who can pull it off successfully!

However, going back the original post, Michael Winner talks about TV presenters. I agree that if you're presenting the news or interviewing celebrities, you need to be dressed smartly (I have nothing against Jonathan Ross' plain suits). For something like Top Gear, I think a t-shirt and jeans would be fine. In fact Clarkson looks a bit like a burke with a smart jack, tie and jeans!

I tend to look rather threatening in a suit.

Mrs2B Bucket likes it.

Poor bloke! I bet he doesn't even know what he's done wrong!

He doesn't even notice. He's got his nose in plans for buildings for his model railway and now CBB is on.

Maybe you need to get his attention

That's exactly the point.

Image is largely an illusion. People only feel the need to portray an image when they are trying to hide truth from others, or from themselves.

Unfortunately, my experience has taught me that many influential people are incredibly shallow and narrow minded. As much as it sickens me, I sometimes find myself having to play along with their ignorant preconceptions in order to progress my career. In my social life I wouldn't give these soulless drones a second thought, but when the profitability of the company depends on it then I'll swallow my pride and wear a suit.

I don't know what women think of men, but personally I find baggy trousers and a nice warm jumper to be a very appealing look on a woman. Most smart clothes make women look like whores, which can be very sexually appealing but certainly not what I'm looking for in a wife.

I want a woman who is comfortable on the outside, and on the inside.

Frequently. I did today, it was about 2.5ºC outside not counting the wind chill.

Generally speaking, men wear suits to lend a false air of authority when they have to tell convincing lies:

Salesmen / businessmen
Appearing in court
Job interviews
Weddings
Funerals

Whoa!! Which way does the scale go? Is it bigger lies during funerals and weddings, or for sales/businessmen? :D
I don't like the idea that participating in a wedding is participating in a lie for you, and why assume it's only the suited man and not the be-meringued lady doing the lying?

I don't know about the other girls here, but I tend to find that it doesn't really matter what a man is wearing, particular things like suits or a nice shirt emphasise bits of a guy that are appealing, but I'm just as attracted to Red in his grubby, holey garage clothes as I would be if he were in a suit, be it Morning or Birthday ;)

Whilst that may be true, have you ever seen a 60+ year old in a leather skirt?!?!

It's not about fashion. It's about how people don't make an effort to look smart as much anymore which is totally true.

Dude, a MILF is a MILF. They don't have to be wearing a leather skirt (or leather anything else for that matter) to be attractive.

Some people make an effort to look casual just as some people throw a suit on with no effort whatsoever. Being a slob requires you to be untidy and lazy.

Well, I'd say that modern fashion is not to look so smart and formal. Attitudes have changed, so have fashions with it IMO. I'm not like a lot of my friends who refuse to wear the correct attire for the correct occasion, but I don't see the point in wearing a suit to work. If I did, my clients might start to wonder what sort of agency we were!

It's all about wearing the correct attire at the correct time and these days, formal wear is much less often required.
