North Germany is in chaos, with 35cm of snow fall in places, combined with high winds blowing it into 2M high drifts across some roads!

Osnabrück has run out of salt for the roads.

I had to drive to our service provider yesterday morning and drop off a printer for repair. On the way back, lorries were getting stuck on the inclines. "Rolling" was okay, the car would go forward, but apply any throttle and it would just wheelspin to the side of the road. The woman in front of me stopped on a hill and couldn't get going again.

After a few minutes, she had managed to get a couple of metres away from me and I managed to get my car to wheelspin to the left, where it hit the slush between my lane and the oncoming lane and I got enough grip to get the car back in motion. I just kept it rolling after that and everything was fine, no acceleration, just let the tyres do their work, without over stressing them. Same for going down the other side of the hill, left it in 2nd and let the engine idle on the way down, no slipping, no sliding, could steer around obstacles.

Out towards the coast it's own little micro-climate it seems. It started just before I went to bed last night and there it all was this morning. It hasn't snowed all day though but it's still hanging around. :D

Sometimes it can be snowing in town and yet it's dry as a bone out here and vice-versa.

I can confirm both snow and ice in Tor Bay. Most of it's gone, but I think tonight's gonna be a cold one.

Snow passed us by yesterday. 3.6°C outside at the moment. The street is totally frozen, which means even the winter tyres struggle to get grip to pull away - once moving, it is fine, but needs some fine clutch control to pull away without any wheelspin.

A light dusting here in Godalming, but the forecast doesn't suggest any more is on the way.

I hope you're OK Big_d, when I checked the forecast from round here, one of the headlines said there were arctic conditions in Germany.

It snowed in Stratford overnight, about 2 cm I would estimate, it's settled and has a layer of ice underneath it :? When I left the house this morning at 06:00 the nearly-full moon was reflecting a lovely light off the snow and made everything look a bit hazy and magical.....

....Still fricking cold though !!

Yeah first snow I spotted was last night coming up to a roundabout by the city bypass, only getting to Byker/Heaton area did I notice any

Pavements/roads were horrendous today, despite passing 3 snowplows/gritters on the way to uni...

Very cold around here. Bypass was closed because of some sort of accident, so had quite a long journey into work this morning. Still no snow though.

It's quite warmish here, but on Saturday night the roads were really icy and because of this my friend fell off his scooter. :x

Why can't britain be warm for once? Fair enough, I can understand it being cold when it's snowing/raining, but when it's cold all the time it takes the piss a bit. :(

Well, it's to do with the planet being a bit lopsided and stuff. We call them seasons. Usually, a couple of warm ones follow the cold ones, and repeated in a cycle every 365.2 days or so. It's been going on for some time. You get used to it.

:P

The roads around here were lethal this morning, no sign of any gritters. My car started to skid three times on the way in this morning. I did notice skid marks and a bashed up bit of hedge this morning and wondering who it was who didn't know how to correct a skid. I got home this evening and it turns out that it had been my significant other.
