I know, I always consider changing the headlines of the things I post, if it's really bad I change it slightly or put something extra in brackets, usually

You're quoting and linking to someone else's headline, why bother changing it.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Some iPad apps will be worth paying extra for, especially if they are at a higher resolution hence better suited for the iPad. Though the price differential will probably be minimal, or they will impact sales.

More than €999?

Don't think I'll be buying them!

Even the €99 for the TomTom software is a bit steep for me. ;)

It might sound a lot but compare to a dedicated GPS unit I think that it could be useful. Pricing is a difficult matter. Considerably lower and it will be on huge numbers of machines.

I know you're a fanboy but surely you don't believe that marketing bullsh!t for a second.

Furthermore how are you going to use an ipad as a gps it's far too big for a prius/geewhiz/mini/beetle/range rover dashboard.

Wasnt the whole point of making the iPad 4:3 rather than 16:10/16:9 so that it can scale iPod/iPhone apps? Apple are extracting the money. And the piss.

I'm not sure what the reason was but I doubt very much 'double scaled iPhone apps fit exactly on the screen' was top of the list. More likely it's for cost or aesthetic reasons - 4:3 touchscreens may be cheaper and/or if you take a widescreen display and turn it on it's side it tends to look quite 'thin'. In the end though it doesn't really matter. It is what it is, take it or leave it. I doubt Jobs will sleep any less well on his mattress stuffed with thousand dollar bills either way.

Oh and GPS? Of course, nobody could ever come up with an application for that that WASN'T driving a car. In fact, that's the only thing it can possibly be used for. Any other application would be just silly.

I am no fan boy. I have been known to criticise Apple's policies and actions. Likewise I have been known to be a fair critic of Microsoft than many Windows users. I do not accept their marketing spiel as gospel. I will always look at a product and see if I actually need it or if it fits my needs.

A GPS enabled iPad with Tom Tom software would while impractical as a dash board attachment may make an excellent passenger aid for map-reading.

Come on Amnesia10, like any passenger given an iPad is going to be doing map reading

Driver "so is it this turning we need to take?"
Passenger "eh?"
Driver "I said, is this the turning we need to take?"
Passenger "umm, I dont know but there is this really cool web site!"
Driver stops car and throttles passenger

Well it was one possibility. Though I would imagine the numbers would be small.
