I have BT and Wi-Fi (and 3G) disabled, unless I actually need them - for push email from our server, a normal GPRS signal is fine.

I love my iPhone.
I've got a 3G, and my housemate has a 3GS. I can't notice any difference between them in terms of speed, but his battery does last a little longer than mine.
If the 3G is cheaper, it may be worth considering.

I've just finished my 18 month contract on my iPhone, and unlike all previous contracts I haven't gone out the day it ended to see what else is available; I just don't feel the need. I'm now on the £20 contract that O2 do and that's about the only change. At some point I appear to have got mine damp, so the on-off button on the top can sometimes not connect properly, but that's about it and given that all the moisture sensors in the phone have been triggered I suspect it is rather safely my fault

Got a 16gb 3GS...only had a month, granted, but no regrets so far. That said, trawling the app store is turning into a full time job - there's so many!

This Month's PCPro labs tested 24 smartphones and the iphone 3gs came out on top. Their only complaints were average battery life and the itunes lock in.
The recommended models were:
HTC Hero Nokia N97 mini Blackberry Bold 9700 T-Mobile pulse

Same here. I think Apple will really try hard to release something special with the next one to tempt people like you and I.

And I. I've been getting in to iPhoneography recently and compared to my mates 3GS I can really see the advantages of the newer models camera, especially it's spot focus/metering and macro capability. I'm looking forward to see what Apple does with the next version of the iPhone with some anticipation. Mark

The rumour mill has a higher res camera (I personally hope not) and an OLED screen (this would be good I think). Steve Jobs has said the next iPhone will be an A+ upgrade, whatever that means.

I've just got one through my work (we're about to start trialling them) on Thursday. So far I like things like being able to get on the net without waiting for my laptop, my gmail coming onto the phone automagically etc. A few annoyances - why for the love of God can't I transfer my contacts from my other phone using bluetooth, you can't multitask for example there's a last.fm app, but you can't listen to it at the same time as browsing the net. You also have to bare in mind that you are basically at Apple's mercy with what you can and can't do with the phone.
An interesting quirk is with the Maps application is that when I'm upstairs in our house it places me correctly, but when I'm downstairs it thinks I'm 2 miles away!
Overall, I don't think I'd be able to justify tripling my monthly spend or £500 on one; but it's really nice.

Well that is true to a point. Apple do let you multi task with their apps. but not with apps. from third party sources. Thus the device is very stable. If you want to enable multi tasking from third parties then these days they are very very easy to jailbreak (hack) to enable you to do so. Though you have to live with the consequences of so doing. Most report that jailbroken iPhones are pretty stable but not quite as good as un-jailbroken iPhones. CC

Also remember that the dev kit for the iPhone is free. It uses Cocoa, which is the same environment as regular Mac applications. You have to part with oney to put your apps onto your phone as you need a paid for developer license.
